Hey, Gretchen! How've you been?

's surgery went really well. Now, it's just a matter of the fusion taking

hold (it takes 6-12 months for it to solidify) and we'll just have to see how

his spine cooperates and decides to grow as he grows. We were at NYU for 6

days--in the PICU. Everyone was really great there. Probably by our 5th day

home, was back to normal. He is now fully adjusted to the brace and

happily crawling along and doing everything he was doing before. He will likely

be in this thing until October. We just have to keep the A/C pumped all summer

b/c he gets REALLY sweaty underneath the brace. Overall, he is fine.

Thank you for asking! I hope everything is going well on your end! Did you

have your baby yet? Have you decided on an ortho?

All my best,

Dr. Feldman at NYU. Now, we love him and he even just did spinal

surgery on our son and it's amazing how he advocated for him and was

just so great about EVERYTHING. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my

son. (His nurse, on the other hand, her personality is still growing

on me...but I have to admit, as much as she annoys me, she called me

on the dot every hour during 's spinal surgery with an update and

with reassuring, supportive words. I was shocked that she would do

that. That's not the norm...)

Hi,

I would be interested to know where Dr. Scher is? I have been going to

Columbia Presbyterian to see Dr. Hyman but would like a second opinion since my

son's R foot slips out of the Markell shoes - They actually just fitted him for

a brace. 4

Thanks,

Dr. Scher

Hospital for Special Surgery

535 East 70th St

NY, NY 10021

We saw him for a 2 1/2 yr. old checkup after moving to NJ this

year. Our initial treatment was w/Dr. Ponseti. We thought Dr.

Scher was excellent and thorough. HTH, all the best, Caroline, mom

to Zeke, 3 yrs. old bcf

I am so glad to hear it went well. It's amazing how quickly babies

heal. My dad had spine surgery at the end of March and it was six

full weeks before he was moving around like normal. :)

I'm doing well. Thanks for asking. I still have another two months

or so to go--my due date is August 10. We are 95% certain that we

will be going with Dr. van Bosse for the baby's treatment. We

haven't actually met him yet, though. That will be the deciding

factor. Still, I've heard enough good things about him that I feel

confident he'll be a good choice. We went to my husband's 20th high

school reunion recently and one of his former classmates was a

resident at HJD with Dr. van Bosse and described him as " very good "

and " meticulous. " Meticulous sounds like what I want in a doctor.

Covered by my insurance is helpful, too. :) The last two months

have just been crazy. Lots of travelling and other distractions, but

I really need to get that consultation appointment scheduled. Now

that I know what the treatment will be and that there are still two

months to go, it doesn't feel as pressing as it did when we first

found out about the clubfeet. When we first found out, I couldn't

imagine that there would be a day when it wouldn't be the first thing

I thought of, but I guess one can get used to the idea of almost

anything given enough time.
