You raise a good point, but in all honesty I am not sure these behaviours

are more " prevalent " in our children.

I'll explain.

If we were just a bunch of " average " parents of " average " kids (no special

issues) and we compared notes on our kids; would we still find around the

same percentage of kids that have these tendencies?

In other words, in the general population what percentage of the kids are

ADHD or OCD? Is it 50% of all " normal " kids are somewhat ADHD or OCD? And

then you discover in our RSS family here, 50% of our kids are ADHD or

OCD......well then it's not a product of RSS; it common to all kids. And

then again, are we not all OCD to some respect (it took me years to break

the habit my father always did and my sisters and I ALL do it every single

night....on your way to bed you go and bang your hand on all 4 elements of

the stove and I mean BANG.....that was my father's way to make sure the

stove was off:---don't know if he ever burned himself......but I FORCED

myself to stop it, but both my sisters still do it every single night. Is

that OCD or is that just a stupid routine that someone has gotten themselves

into and can't get out of? Like on " Everybody loves " when he

has to touch his fork to his chin first, OCD or just weird??)

You know what I mean?

So I think without some concrete data that compares our raw data with the

general population, would be negligent in calling that " a symptom "

of RSS.

Mind you, someone could find out the actual general population averages and

then we could do a survey. But how do you tell what is just weird from OCD?

Colette is major OCD (washes her hands at least 100 times a day; she washes

her hands, then goes into her bedroom and because she touched the door knob

on her way in, she'll come back and wash them all again!!) I wouldn't think

Adam is OCD, he's just weird!! (If you know what I mean).

It's an interesting discussion though.

This thread is very interesting to me, because I was

just diagnosed as having OCD. I've always been very

type A (some might even say anal), but my behavior has

definitely gotten worse since I got to law school. I

figured that it was being thrown into the very high

pressure, high stress environment of law school that

finally pushed me over the edge; however, I had never

previously seen the OCD symptom checklist and now

having seen it, I realize that there are certain

behaviors I've had all of my life that are indicative

of OCD. I'm still not sure that I'm ready to blame

the OCD on RSS, but it is interesting for me to see

that so many other RSS kids on this list exhibit

obsessive compulsive behavior.
