Guest guest
Hi all, Hope everyone if feeling good inside and out. I have been researching our changed eating habits, malabsorbtion, and it's effects on our nutrional and overall well being. The more I learn, the more convinced I become that most people do not get the OPTIMUM amount of vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and the like even when consuming a near perfect diet. Since I have to take supplements for the rest of my life, I want to take the BEST combination in the purest form, with the potency to give me the finest health. Not that easy! Sure, any old multi has the MINIMUM FDA daily requirments.....what about the optimum, what about all the IMPORTANT nutrional factors not even given a goverment minimum. Seems I am eating less green vegetables, less fruit, more protein, less dairy, fat? Everything we eat is now being absorbed DIFFERENTLY. I do not want to take any chances, I want to MAXIMIZE my well being as well as my weight loss. I am experimenting with using some mega multi vitamins with many extra life extending factors, as well as added supplements that address some individual concerns. Yes, a lot of pills, extra expense, and time needed to research and consume, but what could be more important than optimal well being. Weight loss, exercise, supplementation, mental health, balance...all important. My rant is about finished, just wondering what if anything, you guys think and what you take? Guest guest
Dan, I had been thinking about the same thing lately mainly becuz when we all get up to our golden years our nutritional needs become different and what about our ability to eat properly and *remember* to take all the right supplements? Guest guest
Im sorry, I know all about supposedly taking all these script vitamins and stuff, but I find my daily one caps from twinlab to be just fine. Granted I have not had any labs done, becuase of the lack of insurance until yesterday, but if you look on the label to see what all it gives you, those otc vitamins have PLENTY of support. Remember, we are not living on pills alone, we also do eat some. One easy trick is to check the amount of biotin a multi has. Since biotin is very, very expensive, companies have a tendency to skimp on it. The daily one caps are fine with me.. about 15 bucks for a bottle of 60. I'll update this issue more when my labs are done.. Love, Sue post op 9/11/01 Dr. Warden Ocean Sps, MS > Hi all, > > > Hope everyone if feeling good inside and out. Guest guest
Sue, How do you like the Daily One caps? I was thinking about buying them. Do them stink like vitamin B? Are they capsules or gelcaps? Thanks, > > Hi all, > > > > > > Hope everyone if feeling good inside and out. Guest guest
Vita4life vitamins are for bariatric surgeries. They are 100% absorbable for malabsorption surgeries such as the DS. If you want optimal, there you are. These are the best vitamins and they have everything in them, calcium, A, D, E, K. you can find them on the web under vita4life. > Hi all, > > > Hope everyone if feeling good inside and out. Guest guest
Hi, I heard someone mention this supplement on a PBS show. It's called Alpha-Lipoic Acid. Just picked some up today, made by Sundown. Here's what it says on the bottle: Alpha-Lipoic Acid promotes healthy cell function and enhances energy production. It provides antioxident protection from free radicals that may cause premature aging. It also helps the body metabolize sugar, primarily in muscle cells, where it is used for energy. Alpha-Lipoic Acid is unique in that it is both fat and water soluble , so it can provide antioxidant protection for the entire cell. So basically, it's an antioxidant. It also boosts the effectiveness of Vit. C and E. I picked it up in Pathmark, for $8.50, for 50 caplets, 50 mg each. One or two a day is the recommended dosage. Guest guest
The only problem with vita4life for the DSer is they are quite high in iron which we dont have much of a problem with. I had to cut way down from 12 capsules a day to 3-4! Judie
Guest guest
I like them very much because they dont make me burp up icky stuff.. they're regular capsuls, but the nice thing is you only have to take one of them.. they do smell if they're open a long time.. dont keep em in the bathroom either because steam from the shower can make em smell more too.. Hope this helps. Sue > > > Hi all, > > > > > > > > > Hope everyone if feeling good inside and out. Guest guest
OOOO--smart thinking Sue. Never considered the steam factor! Guest guest
Hi Judy, Hope your Mom is coming along. Guest guest
I haven't had optimum success with Vita4life, still need extra vit D and calcium, and I am low on zinc and selenium and slightly anemic, all at my 8 month check up. I have increased all vitamins and become rigorous in taking them ( I will admit to some negligence prior to now). I am also rigorous in taking my iron supplement. good luck in finding what works best for you lennyB __________________________________________________
