Re: How long for Brachy (DOC band)?

Hi - we had a different band (Boston Band) but my son also started around

the same age (7 1/2 months) and just finished with the helmet after 9 weeks.

He started at 96% for brachy and will finish in the mid-to-high 80's (final

measurement next week). We could definitely go longer with it if we wanted to

get him into the low 80's but he looks great and honestly if he started out

where he is right now we never would have banded anyway. I think the timeframe

can vary a great deal from baby to baby but if you hit a growth spurt the

improvement can be pretty quick (at least it was for us). Best of luck to you!

Good question!

My son was scanned today too...his Cephalic index is 100. I was told 12-16

weeks. He will be just over 7m when he starts. I too would love to know how

long other kiddos have been in the band for brachy..

My daughter wore her DOC Band for about 7 weeks and she was 5 months old with

Brachy and her CI was like 104% and we got it down to 92% I think. It's been a

few months now, but she needed a second band but we couldn't afford it so if we

would have I would imagine she would have worn it for about 8 weeks. Sounds

like the shorter number is the one I would go off based off what the two

different people told you! Just my opinion and experience...

's CI was 99%, he's had the band on since right before Christmas. He's

going to get measured this coming Monday for a second band, because I'm not

quiet happy with the results yet, and we have come this far. CT told us it

would be probably another 3-4 months. When we got the first band they told us

2-3, with no mention of the possibility of a second band, I had to ask about

that.

He was completely flat on the back...

OMG - you finished in 9 weeks? I'm very impressed. My daughter wore a starband

for 5 mo - starting at age 5 mo. She went from 96% to 85%. I would love to see

your pictures. Seems like Boston Band worked out great for you. Is this the same

as Nopco? Can you tell me where you got it? I'm one of the mods in the group and

Nopco has a bit of a mixed reputation - that is why I would like to hear more of

your story. You might have posted some of it before, but my memory is not always

good.

Hi - Yes, we got our helmet from NOPCO - specifically the Burlington,

MA location. I was pretty surprised by the quick results, too, but Dr.

(cranio-facial doc) had told us that it would be 10-12 weeks, so it was pretty

close. I think we must have hit a good growth spurt - the ortho at NOPCO was

surprised by how much his head circumference changed between appointments.

We've seen three different orthos there and they've all been great and seemed to

know what they were doing. I'll post some before and after pics in the photos

section - they'll be under " Rohan " . :-)

My son also has Brachy. I was told 2-3 months when I went for his evaluation

(when he was 3.5 months old) and it will likely be around 4 total--and two DOC

Bands.

He got his first DOC Band at 4.25 months and started with a cephalic index of

100% and minor plagio on the left side (6mm). The intial standard deviation was

over 5 (don't remember the exact number).

After 6 weeks in it, when I had his 2nd photostudy done, his CI went down to

92.2% (+3.7 standard deviation) and the CVA went to 4 mm.

He got the 2nd band on Monday, at 6.5 months. I don't have current measurements,

but I'm guessing he'll be in this one for 8 weeks or so. That will be a total of

16 weeks, not including the 11 days between bands, if I'm right.

I think it depends on your daughter's growth during the time in her DOC Band and

when you feel she'll be " done. " But I don't think it's outside of the realm of

possibility.
