If this is your first step down from wearing the FAB full-time, you should be

aiming to have it worn about 18-20 hours a day. It's not that the FAB *needs*

to be worn while your little one is sleeping, you'll get the same results having

her do some of the hours while she is awake, the long stretch while she sleeps

at night, maybe she'll fall alseep with it on during the day... It doesn't much

matter when she's wearing it, as long as she's getting those hours in every day.

My son has always been a very regular napper, so we had no trouble just putting

the FAB on when we knew he was going to go down for a nap. Other children

(most) aren't so regular with naps, and many parents prefer to do the time in

the FAB at all one stretch--besides it can be a real chore taking the thing off

and putting it back on all day long. You'll figure out what works for you!

We just kept Aleksander's shoes on for one big chunk of time rather

than monkeying around with taking the shoes off and putting them back

on again several times a day.

We started off with the 1 hour out in the evenings, for a bath. Then

we just started taking the shoes off progressively earlier in the day

as his hours were reduced, until now when he wears them only at

night. It worked very well for us, and now I feel a little less

anxious about when he'll be released from the shoes because I know he

can sleep without the shoes on, as well as with them on.

Just do all the hours in one stretch. Don't worry about putting it on/off during

naps. For example, if she needs to wear the brace for 16 hours, put it on at

8pm and take it off next day at noon. That way she has 8 hours of free time out

of the brace during the day.

When Dr. Pirani told us " nights and naps " he said that we should aim

to have her in the brace around 14-16 hrs and that 'longer in the

shoes was better'. I never put her brace on for her naps...too much

work...I always had her wear it for one chunk of time.

It's so much easier to have baby in the brace for longer hours when

they are young like Darby. And longer hours are like insurance

against relapse. It's also important for her to learn how to sit up,

roll over, eventually pull up and sit down etc in the brace. She will

be doing all of this in it in her crib and if she dosen't learn these

things, you will be going in to 'help' her all night.

I know that Dr. Pirani says night's and naps after full time wear but

he also says that the longer baby 'tolerates' wearing it, the

better...to me this means 'the longer parents brace their child the

better' and I had Grace in her brace *at least* 16 hrs a day until

she was pulling up and standing well, then we did 14 hrs until she

was walking well (about 15mos) and now do between 12-14. She never

had any issues and I think a big part of that was that I kept her in

her brace for a few hours each morning, she actually crawled and sat

better in the brace than without it :).

Most people just do the hours in one block of time, which is much easier. I

have four kids and am doing well to remember to put on 's shoes at the

right time and take them off at the right time ONCE a day, much less multiple

times a day.

After the initial 23/7 brace wear, went down to 18 hours a day. I try to

keep it always from 1 pm to 7 pm out of the brace so it is a part of my everyday

schedule and I don't forget. When she does down in hours in another few weeks

to 16, I will do it from 11 am until 7 pm every day. Then, when she drops to 14

hours a day, it will be from 9 am until 7 pm. That way I am always clear about

how long she is wearing it and I don't forget what time I took it off. Make it

easy on yourself. As long as you get the hours in, it doesn't matter when you

do it.
