Guest guest
There used to be a woman on this list who could answre that question from personal experience...are you still here, Nan?? Anyhow, she had a huge gap between the panni surgery and the DS -- my guess is that if she could have had the DS and then a panni LATER (after weight loss), she would have. ~alyssa pani same time as wls? > > Hi Everyone, > > My friend is going to have the switch around April and she is 430 lbs. She is wanting to get some advice from those who have had wls and see what they think about having a pani at the time of surgery or should she wait and lose weight first. If she should wait to lose weight first she would like to know why it is a good idea to wait.Thank you, Kathy > > Dr. Anthone, USC > > Pre-op Sept.2001- 420 lbs. > > Dec. 2001- 339 lbs. Guest guest
The panni that Dr. Anthone does prior to surgery is for very different reasons then the panni, or tummy tuck done after surgery. He believes, and his stats support, that people with very large aprons of fat do better if that is removed prior to having the DS. He feels that this allows his patients better mobility, takes off a few pounds letting their hearts and lungs work better, etc. On the other hand he is the only surgeon that I know of that does this. Open DS with Dr. Anthone 7/6/01 261 lbs. down to 193 lbs. > There used to be a woman on this list who could answre that question from > personal experience...are you still here, Nan?? > > Anyhow, she had a huge gap between the panni surgery and the DS -- my guess > is that if she could have had the DS and then a panni LATER (after weight > loss), she would have. > > ~alyssa

Guest guest
I hate to appear dumb, but what is a panni? Ann>>>>>> Hi Ann, A panni is the apron or overhang of skin that hangs down the belly as the weight comes off. A Panniculectomy is where the surgeon removes that excess skin, Judie =)
