LOL, I was actually worried when Darbi was little that she didn't

have the standard *shoe squish* ankle. It was there, but not really

intense. It's normal and he will indeed loose that eventually.

18 is probably fine, I'm thrilled to hear of a doc who actually does

that. If you want, you can do 18-20, making sure you get at least 18

and there will be days where you forget to take it off or it's more

convenient to leave it on, etc. and he'll get 20. Next reduction is

16-18, same principle applies (make sure for 16 and when you can do

18), then 14-16 till walking. At walking (usually at or around 1yo -

in the 12-14mo' range) you go down to 12-14.

Some have been told 20 hours initially by Dr. Ponseti even but I

think if you just call it 18-20 instead of 18 you will for sure get

the hours he needs.

Kim,

My daughter expierenced this also. If you look under Lilee in the pics, and

maybe swoll ankle, you will see a pic there. It does go away after reduced hrs.

Deep indentations in the ankle/calf area

My son is 4.5 months old and has been in the bar for 3 months

now. When I take the shoes off he has a severe indentation on both

ankles/calf area. Whenever I see the Dr. he said it is normal and

that once he has the bar off more it will go away, but it seem so

swollen above where the shoes stop. I am worried - has anyone else

experienced this?

Also, after 3 months of wearing the bar 23 hours every day,

our Dr. is telling us we can cut down to 18 hours per day. Is this

what everyone else did or did you gradually go down to 18 hours?

Thanks in advance!

Don't worry, it is just the strap displacing the fat on his legs. 's look

the same and it takes them quite a while out of the shoes to start to look more

normal. It is not harmful in any way.

Generally, after the 23/7 brace wear for 3 months, the next drop in hours is to

18-20. Dr. Ponseti advised us to drop 's hours to 18 so that is what we

have done. His advice is tailored to each individual patient but 18-20 hours a

day after the initial three months it pretty typical and conservative so you

should be fine with that amount.

Deep indentations in the ankle/calf area

My son is 4.5 months old and has been in the bar for 3 months

now. When I take the shoes off he has a severe indentation on both

ankles/calf area. Whenever I see the Dr. he said it is normal and

that once he has the bar off more it will go away, but it seem so

swollen above where the shoes stop. I am worried - has anyone else

experienced this?

Also, after 3 months of wearing the bar 23 hours every day,

our Dr. is telling us we can cut down to 18 hours per day. Is this

what everyone else did or did you gradually go down to 18 hours?

Thanks in advance!
