Guest guest
My daughter had her tenotomy done under general anesthesia when she was 12 months old. She did fine and the whole thing took very little time. She had a some pain afterwards but they gave her some pain medication in her IV while in the recovery room. After that, she really required nothing more than baby tylenol and we only gave her that for about 24 hours. She really just slept the majority of the day/night of the procedure but then when she woke up the next day, she was fine. She had one episode of vomiting from the anesthesia but we had over an hour drive home afterwards and I also have similar nausea issues with anesthesia. The whole anticipation and fear ahead of time was a lot scarier than the procedure and taking care of her afterwards. The doctor gave us a prescription for stronger pain meds but she just never needed them. Jenni wrote: Well Che is gonna have is tendants cut in two weeks. We went to the Dr. today for his new casts and the Dr says his feet are better its just the heel that needs the work now. He is to old to do it in the office so we have to take him to UNM Hospital. Should I be worried about them putting him to sleep?? She said he will be in casts for 3 weeks after that. I dont't know being I havn't gone through this before how do I keep him comfotable after?? Guest guest
Thanks Jenni, I am so nervous. I know I am gonna cry the whole time haha. I just dont want to see him in a lot of pain. Do they start wearing the bar after the tenotomy. His doc said he will go into casts for three weeks after his tenotomy. I dont know a lot about how the bar works.. If someone can tell me the basics on how to make sure he is wearing it right etc.. Thanks Tina Well Che is gonna have is tendants cut in two weeks. Guest guest
Tina, Oh, yes, Tina. I was a basket case in the waiting room after I had to give Kelsey to the anesthesiologist and the nurses. Luckily, the whole procedure took less than an hour from the time I handed her to them until she was back in recovery and we were talking to the doctor. Good luck with it all. In the files section of this group's yahoo site, there is a file called DBB tips and tricks that can give you a ton of information about the brace from how to make sure it is on properly to what type of socks are best with it. This should help you with all of those questions. The most important advice I can give about the brace is to be diligent and consistent with the wear. Getting used to it in the beginning can be difficult and it can be so tempting to give up. The brace wear is so critical to the success of the treatment. Once Kelsey got used to hers, it is now just another part of her pajamas and she does not question this. Feel free to email me any time if you have any specific questions or concerns. After the tenotomy, those casts do stay on for three weeks. Then, my daughter did go straight into the brace at the doctor's office. Our doctor has the orthotist come to her office and be at that appointment. That way, the doctor can check the fit of the shoes as well. Not all doctors do it this way though. They may send you to a separate orthotics place or an orthotics department at the hospital, depending on where you go. Jenni wrote: Thanks Jenni, I am so nervous.
