Guest guest
Thank you . My mother has spent years doctoring- finally got some relief with some intense allergy therapies. Her stomach problems are better- in that she's not losing the weight and feeling like she's dying, but still has the diarrhea. She's been on a rotation diet for years. The pains in her legs started a couple of years ago, and have only gotten worse. And now the intense pain in her hips and back. I have sent your info on to her and I will see what I can do toward finding a doctor for her. Thank you. Lolita >I spent last weekend with a researcher from the U of MD Celiac Center >(www.celiaccenter.org) & learned a lot about CD and other gluten >problems. A few comments - re ASD & ADHD, the body's dysfunctional >response to gluten is not the same as that in CD, altho one can have >both problems. Re body pain & cd - again one can have cd, but there >are also other gluten responses that can cause the same problems, >such as a classic allergy to gluten grains (IgE), an improper immune >reaction (IgG), or opioid response (theorized in ADHD & ASD cases). >CD can be triggered by an event, such as puberty, menopause, viruses, >etc. So you can test negative for cd antibodies, yet develop cd >later in life. There is now a DNA test in the works so >predisposition can be identified. New research indicates that >untreated cd triggers insulin dependent diabetes and that up to 6% of >people with Type I diabetes have CD. The rate is also high for >people with downs syndrome; some hospitals now automatically test DS >children for CD. > >Ok, if you made it through that, here's my experience re pain. I had >a fibro dx following a long viral illness and my life was devastated >by the severe pain. After going gfcf with my child (and I cheated a >tiny bit outside of the home), to my surprise I began feeling better >within a month. Slow progress continued, then sped up once I stopped >cheating. After 9 mos gfcf, I had amalgam fillings removed & began >mercury chelation. The last of the (now sporatic and far less >intense) pain & fog lifted, and I confidently declared myself well! >The bad news is that I just completed 6 weeks of daily gluten in >order to be tested for CD. Chronic pain, congestion, exhaustion, >sleep dysfuntion & brain fog have returned, though not as severe. > >You might try contacting the Celiac Center for Research, UofMD, for a >doctor near you. Also, skin prick for RAST blood testing and IgG >food panel could be helpful. I would lean towards a doctor with an >immunology/allergy/environmental medicine background - JMO. Good >luck! And now the intense pain in her hips and back. Bone pain and osteoporosis is a common effect of celiac. You can read more about it on this site. http://www.celiac.com/index.html Dana
