Subject: [autism-awareness-action] mark your calendars for Dec. 5 to

attend the planning meeting for the first Autism Walk in Buffalo, New

York

I am writing you as parent of a son with a high functioning form of

Autism, to become involved in the first Autism Walk in Buffalo, New York.

The planning meeting with NAAR representatives, Gallipoli and Ken

Farber, is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 PM - University at

Buffalo, Room 140 Ketter Hall.

We can't do it without your help!!!

Ken Sull, a good friend and father of a son with autism, has agreed to

co-chair the Buffalo WALK F.A.R. NAAR with me but there are many people

that need to get involved to make this a success!!

NAAR, is a national organization whose primary mission is to fund

biomedical research into causes, prevention, treatment and a cure for

autism and related disorders. The Princeton, New Jersey-based

organization, the National Alliance for Autism Research, was founded in

1994 by two parents, and London, who saw a void in the medical

industry. Last year, the non-profit tax exempt group funded $3 million

for research projects toward a cure.

Autism was once thought to be a “rare” disorder but is now known to

affect as many as one in every 500 children but the number can be as high

as one in 250. This makes it more common than multiple sclerosis or

cystic fibrosis-- diseases that receive significantly more attention and

research dollars.

I would like to extend an open initiation to parents, professionals and

businesses to be a part of the first walk for Autism in Buffalo, New York

(which is scheduled for Sept 29, 2002) through NAAR (National Alliance

for Autism Research). (see attached invitation letter and

volunteer/sponsor form)

Will you help leave a lasting imprint on Autism in Buffalo with us???

Our children are counting on us to be a voice for them!!

Please feel free to pass this information to those that you know have

been touched by Autism in the Western New York area. If you have any

questions, or need information, please contact me at or

email monica@...

Thank you!

Moshenko
