Guest guest
Dawna, Our first Endo, here in Cleveland, actually laughed when we expressed our concerns about the weight-to-height ratio, lack of ability to gain weight, and caloric catch-up. Endos, in general, don't seem to be concerned about weight, only height. Here are a few things that were brought to our attention when this same Endo started Bran on GH at 15 months of age. 1) GH does not rule growth in the human body until around the age of 2, caloric intake does, so starting GHT before the age of 2 generally won't give you the best results. 2) GH increases the child's growth velocity by 1.5 - 2 times it's previous rate. If a child cannot increase their weight gain by the same rate, GH will be less effective, and the child will become too thin. I used this site to chart Noah's weight-for-stature (same as weight-for-height) http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhanes/growthcharts/set3/chart%2013.pdf On this chart he appears to be several blocks under the 3rd percentile, and that would indicate to me that he needs to gain some weight. Hope this helps! Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 3 yrs 10 months old, 25#, 34.6 " , G-tube, GHT)

Our endo also told us that we would not start gh before she was two,but we did start at two.The periactin, appetite stimulant, seems to help, but I have my concerns with it being an antihistimnie. This is the first time I have ever heard anything about height anf weight differences and needing to wait until they are in the right percentage. Can you educate me? chloe's genectic speciaist and endo act like there is nothing to worry about,no other medical conditions or learning disabilities but every site on the internet tells a different tell. What do you know? Help,Reah
