Guest guest
I swear I feel like I am going through puberty.....the acne, now using condoms....I think the cosmos are against a good nookie session for me!!!! woe is me! Lisbeth mariak415 wrote: Oooh Lisbeth...then I hope you find an answer soon! BTW, Rabkin advises that regardless of whether or not you use the pill, you should also use a *mechanical* means of birth control during the weight loss window. This includes condoms, diaphrams, sponges or big, flashing neon STOP signs!! (okay...so he *doesn't* recommend the last one) I can't stand the pill and I've been on the depo shots for the past two years. Delphine said it was okay to continue that as long as my every-three-months shot doesn't come due the same week as surgery or soon after. She said I didn't have to use anything else on top of that, but y'all know there is only one TRUE way to prevent pregnancy (aside from being a guy, that is). Guest guest
, Liane et all, Now I have heard that women tend to gain weight on the Lunette shot or the other birth control shots....and was one of the reasons I was going to ask for regular bcp....but now I am wondering which would be best....this is all very confusing...I have an appointment with my endo on friday so I am wondering if she could answer these questions.... Lisbeth ma2two wrote: > Liane: I know that the pill itself may not be fully absorbed, etc. and this may lead to an 'accidental' pregnancy, but I thought that the patch *may* be better because it would be absorbed via the skin and the intestinal system would not be involved... same for the Lunette shot. I would think if anyone was considering birth control via hormones -- the pill MAY NOT be as effective because of our malapsorption but the other forms of the pill (patch/shot) may have a better chance or more comprehensive coverage.. Of course, I haven't read *any* studies to this effect nor do I know for sure if getting the hormones via skin/muscle would 'circumvent' the possible decreased efficacy issue the digestion of the pill can present... These other alternatives do seem promising for us, though. I am very hesitant about relying on the pill (in pill form) as a post-op... These are questions I should address to my surgeon. If we recieve the hormones via patch or shot, do we need a 'normal' dose or would it have to be adjusted for some reason? all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
I know what you mean my brief stints with the bcp were breif because I never felt quite right......But I am definitely curious about the patch and the shot who knows maybe these are improvements over the pill.... Lisbeth ma2two wrote: > > Wow , you read my mind...I am sitting here thinking I have to make another appointment with the Gyno to get me on some BCP...This patch sounds interesting thanks for the link! > Lisbeth Lisbeth: I have to think of the future, too --- There's the Lunette shot (it is a monthly shot which is basically a birth control pill in shot form).... I just hate the pill. I've been on it at various times in my life and EACH TIME I felt MISERABLE and PSYCHOTIC and on edge... I always ended up stopping the damn thing. I think that the patch or shot would have a similar effect for me, but I'm not sure... The patch looks pretty interesting -- I'm going to look into it, too! The only real drawback I see is that it is not supposed to work as well for those who are over 198 lbs (wow -- I'm there one day but 200 the next! LOL). I'd like to see more studies on that.. all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
Liane, You know, they do have male birth control. The men sometimes are just very resistant. It's called snip, snip. Most men cross their legs just at the mention of it! LOL My DH was very willing (even had to go through it 2x, 6 years apart, long story) But it was by far the very best choice for us! Re: post-op birth control: New birthcontrol 'patch' approved I took no chances.. I started on Depo after surgery.. the hardest part is psyching myself up every 3 months to stick myself! Once the needle is in, the shot itself is a breeze.. Go figure.. when the doc wants to do a fingerstick for instant blood sugar testing, I can't do it.. yet can give myself a shot (after some psyching-up..) with a verry long needle... When do they come up w/male birth control???? Sigh Liane (seemingly) perpetually at 308 > Hi, everyone -- I've been looking into post-op birth control and I really > don't know the efficacy of the pill in terms of post-op absorption... Guest guest
OK.. rephrase that... when do they come up with " temporary " birth control for men that doesn't require surgery???? I've suggested the " snip, snip " method to hubby.. since he sez he doesn't want kids.. then suddenly he might " change his mind later. " Go Figure! Guest guest
Liane, That goes with the crossing the legs..... Pure denial. They are so afraid that their " jewels " might have an owie! LOL What they don't realize is the pure freedom that comes from a couple of days of " discomfort " . Guest guest
You are absolutely right....Liane.....I guess I will have to go and talk to the doctor and find out.....what the best course of action is! Lisbeth lianefrench wrote: Lisbeth- I worried about slow weight loss from the Depo shot, but decided that it would be easier to deal with than a pregnancy that my body might not yet be ready to deal with.. and I gotta admit, until recently I had decided that I was losing just fine.. of course, I was a " serious-neverending-plateau virgin " until recently... and from all I've heard, this happens to those NOT on Depo... so who knows? Besides.. until you're committed to one guy, condoms are still gonna be a neccessary evil...dammit. Just a few thoughts from a sleepy person.... Guest guest
Well, maybe. Have you ever been kicked in . . . oops, guess not. When that happens, I usually am afraid I'm going to die. The feeling soon changes to a fear that I'm not going to. It'd be pretty hard to find someone who could compare the two experiences. Guest guest
Y'wanna know something? Before I lost weight, I didn't worry about this too much. Hell....you could kick me in the crotch and never even come close. Now, with all the fat hanging there gone, I just feel so damn EXPOSED!
