Guest guest
, You are still pretty newly post opt so its natural to feel this way. I hated the thought of protein for about the first month post opt and thought I made a terrible mistake since I couldnt stomach thinking about eating proteins the rest of my life like this. But hon, it passes!!! I love proteins right now. I think 62 grams a day is a bit high for you right now....why not try for 40? I think the first month isnt as important as it will be later. You might want to try ordering some food from Schwans if you have one that delivers to your home. They have all kinds of good protein dishes you can choose from to hide the idea of just eating proteins by adding carbs to it. You do need some carbs every day or you will certainly burn out and give up altogether. The brain needs some carbs every day to function properly. Have you had a baked potato with some butter on it, with sour cream and chives and grated cheese? By the time you get down to the potato youve eaten alot of cheese and / or ground beef you put on top so the carbs are very small in amount eaten. How about a little spaghetti with double the amount of ground beef (mashed fine)?? How about wrapping some deli ham around a pickle? or even a piece of cheese? Hope this helps some.....I know what you are going thru becuz Ive been there....... Hugs, Judie
Guest guest
Hi, Judie. You are so kind. Your " voice " sounds so understanding and gentle. All of your food suggestions seem like good ideas, particularly the potato and spaghetti. Ahhhh. So tired right now and just feeling sorry for myself when I should be grateful. Thanks so much, my dear, > , > You are still pretty newly post opt so its natural to feel this way. Guest guest
, Hon, if you need more ideas Ill try to help you out here, okay? One great idea if you like french toast is to dip that bread in egg mixture and then scramble the rest of it to eat with the french toast! Forget about counting carbs right now for the first 6 weeks, ok? You just want to get that protein in however you can with what tastes best for you right now.....even down to the maple syrup on the french toast! You arent going to get enough simple carbs to screw things up for you right now. Feel free to scream help if you need some more ideas......im more than willing to help you out here becuz I know how it feels..... Guest guest
Thanks, Judie. This means a lot to me right now in my pathetic, sad, and worried state! I DO like French toast but all I kept seeing was scrambled eggs in my future. I will try it tomorrow. Guest guest
I DO like French toast but all I kept seeing was scrambled eggs in my future. >>>> thats exactly how I felt! If someone mentioned hamburgers thats all I saw instead of maybe using it to make spaghetti with! I needed to camoflague the protein in ways to trick my mind so I could eat it....its weird, isnt it? I couldnt stand the though of eating any proteins, period! Rabecca who used to be on this list and had her surgery in Spain helped me alot over this hump so Im trying to pass on to you what she did to help me. Have you gone to the Schwans website to see what they have that you might like??? You might also try eating a scoop of ice cream.....the real stuff.....no fakaroonies here. That can sometimes help you over the protein hump too! Hugs, Judie
Guest guest
OK, Judie. Just visited Schwans. Didn't know such a site existed. I'll look at it in more detail later. Also, just ate some ice cream, and I DO feel a little better. I was on the verge of a protein panic attack! You've just made a friend whom you are not going to be able to shake! Everytime I flip out I'm gonna start whining for you! Luv, > I DO like French toast but all I kept seeing was scrambled > eggs in my future. >>>> > > thats exactly how I felt! Guest guest
Everytime I flip out I'm gonna start whining for you!>>>> Thats what Im for, !!! =) Im trying to give back something that Rabecca gave me a year ago......sanity when I thought I was going crazy hating proteins! Im glad the ice cream did it for you.....does every time. Do not deny yourself something that would help you get thru this rough period, okay? I thought I could never have anything good or sweet and had to stick with proteins for the rest of my life.....thought Id rather die than do that. Then I started adding carbs little by little then it got to be more tolerable. Do you like grapes? firm, big juicy grapes? If you have a costco there, go get some! They are wonderful and at the same time you will get in some of your fruits. (Watermellon also did it for me too but its out of season now) I also noticed that fruits really filled me up fast! Check out that Schwans list and see if there is something on it you might like that will carry you thru for awhile......maccaroni and cheese is excellent for this period of time.......if you make your own add extra cheese to boost the protein levels. Remember.....if you eat ice cream always eat the real thing......also real mayo none of the fake stuff! (the ice cream sometimes helps break a plateau!) Are you able to tolerate bread? If so, how about a tuna sandwich or toasted cheese? Or even a soft taco with some mashed ground beef (sirloin...its the best) with all the stuff you love on tacos! Think of how much protein is loaded on tacos? you might add some refried beans too to boost the protein levels..... Hugs, Judie
Guest guest
, Judie has to much class and social graces to say this but if anyone whined at the beginning of surgery that was me *raises hand and points to self* I was whining in private emails no less....And when I went through my first plateau and I just " knew " that the surgery failed and I wasn't going to lose any weight. Judie gently said " calm down you are doing great plateaus are a common part of this process " If it hadnt been for all those posts and all the cheering up I think I would have left the list 2 months post-op...Judie is an angel...Thanks for all the support Judie I know you got me through a real rough spot! Lisbeth June 25, 2001 254-->189 On another plateau *sigh* this too shall pass.... Guest guest
, I think it's the seeming lack of variety post-op that gets us down! Thank God we have all these people to come up with suggestions for us! *grins* I was getting tired of protein for a while as well, but then I was also eating practically the same 3 things..I was meaning to try that chicken quesadilla from Taco Bell, but I haven't yet..I don't think pita bread will expand that much in your stomach, so I'm willing to try it Btw, I also think the anesthesia affects us more than we think and we're more emotional those first 6-8 weeks post-op..I almost cried during the movie when I went to see Harry Potter today! Hang in there, we both know it gets better! Anita 11/08/01 Dr Keshishian 11/08/01 320lbs 11/26/01 298lbs > > , > > You are still pretty newly post opt so its natural to feel this > way. Did you see her last wonderful post for me? Big, firm, juicy grapes! Now I gotta go get some! I've hardly had any fruit at all! I must seem like a real whiney baby/basket case right now. Guest guest
, Unfortunately, I live in Colorado, so no Del Taco, In and Out Burger or anything like that for me! I would have to goto a real Mexican place if I wanted something other than Taco Bell My plan for next year is Mazatlan, where I hope to look and feel good and have mahi mahi and fresh shrimp on those lovely beach side restaurants!
