So Nick, you've lost almost 80 lbs. in 2.5 months....can you tell me what your average day is like, food wise? Thanks! jj
Guest guest
Yesterday I had two eggs and a piece of toast for breakfast. I had about 1/4 cup of OJ mixed with = amount of water. Sometimes I will add a bit of shredded cheese (to scrambled eggs), plus maybe a small slice of ham or one half of a low fat sausage. The limiting factor is how much I can hold, not how much I think I " should " eat. Lunch was a 1/2 chicken pie and another piece of toast spread very lightly with blue cheese. I couldn't finish the pie. My afternoon snack was a protein bar. Dinner was shrimp sautéed in garlic with rice (probably about a 1/4 cup was all I could eat) and a cup of yogurt. For breakfast today, I had a cup of oatmeal (I added 2 Tbsp. of wheat germ and 1/3 cup of powdered milk for extra protein). I took a Lactaid tablet beforehand to prevent a later " explosion. " I also had a cup of decaf coffee. For sweetener I use Splenda. I will have another protein bar for a snack and probably a hamburger for lunch. I toss the thickest slice of the bun and eat it open face. I still don't have the capacity to eat the whole bun. When I eat fast foods, I avoid anything that has been deep fried for purposes of personal survival. LOL. In fact, I avoid anything with a lot of grease due to the fact that it gives me gas and diarrhea. Low-fat, as opposed to non-fat, seems to work best. This, believe me, isn't " will-power! " It is survival! For dinner I typically have about 3 oz. of chicken, beef, fish or some other meat. I will add some veggies & /or salad as space allows. As I find something to re-add to my diet, I will try it. Almost always there is no problem. In fact, I find myself eating almost everything. How much I eat changes meal to meal, however, from week to week, I generally find myself eating more and more. I have never felt deprived, except when they were feeding me sugar-free jello and broth in the hospital, but then, I didn't really care much. I will eat a few small sugar-free cookies if I have them around. I also have a bag of tiny " trick-or-treat " Hershey bars which I have from time to time. The big difference is that one of them satisfies my interest in sweets for a couple of days. Before, I would have eaten the bag in a day or two. I have had two bags around for a couple of weeks. I haven't opened one and the other is still almost full. Can you imagine leaving chocolate alone based upon " will-power? " Best- Nick in Sage Nick...what do you eat? > > Nick in Sage > > Dr. Keshishian - 8/29/01 > > - 79 lbs. > > So Nick, you've lost almost 80 lbs. in 2.5 months....can you tell me > what your average day is like, food wise? Can you imagine leaving chocolate > alone based upon " will-power? " Nope, I'd have the bag gone in a day...I have a wicked sweet tooth. So, the surgery makes you not want sweets? How about bread and other carbs? This is hard for me to comprehend. I believe you, I just can't wrap my fat-encased mind around it. So, it's not that you " have " to eat better, it's that you " want " to eat better? Thanks for the info! jj
Guest guest
Nick, Could you talk to me about Splenda please? Did you use it prior to surgery? I love Crystal Light Pink Lemonade and Ice Tea with Sweet and Low. I can't tolerate equal, and I just can't cope with any artifical sweetener in my coffee. Because of that, I rarely have coffee and when I do, i put my sugar in it! Can you compare any of these drinks/sweeteners with splenda. I am wondering if I should bother investing in some knowing I hate artificial sweeteners except in two things! Thanks, Theresa P.S. Sounds like you are doing fantastic my friend. Thanks for sharing a typical day 4 days and counting Dr. J > Yesterday I had two eggs and a piece of toast for breakfast. I had about > 1/4 cup of OJ mixed with = amount of water. Guest guest
Nick, Thanks for your feedback. I might as well just experiment. I suppose a box of splenda isn't going to drive me to the poorhouse! laughing Hey my friend, I am a nervous wreck. I have lost about 13 pounds just on nerves as I am not eating less, I don't think or any better! Oy.... fireproof your email, I have a feeling I will be asking for a lot of advice post surgery! Thanks for your generosity in always lending a shoulder, advice, and most importantly laughter when I have needed it most. Remember, we will always have haggis!
