I am sure most of you here think I am to be included in the negative

posts.....but maybe I am dense because I just don't understand why telling

those who have not yet had surgery, but think RNY is *the* way to go is to be

considered negative. I also do not understand why it is negative for me to

back up my claims about not wanting an RNY lifestyle with direct quotes from

people who are living with the RNY.

I also do not understand why it is negative for me to stand up for myself in

saying that I *did* more work on losing weight in my whole life than I did at

anything....had I used *that* energy for my education, I would have 12 PHds

by now. Unless a person has lived in another person's body, they do not have

a right to judge that their MO is their own fault.

I honestly do not care in the least if people choose to have the RNY once

their eyes are opened as to the lifestyle they will have. If they desire a

lifestyle of dieting and beating themselves up, I always say, hey go for it!

But I do not have to make the same choice, thank the Lord.

And if we are arguing *for* DS, how is that negative? I think it is positive

for the DS.

Negative about the RNY- is that what you are complaining about?

I am not yet a post-op (will be soon) so I cannot post about after surgery

lifestyles, but I do believe that those who post here about what their lives

are like now after DS are telling the truth.

If you will all remember, this thread started with a select *few* stating

that they were *researching* different wls methods and that the RNY is just

as good as the DS and how do any of *us* know the difference since we are

*not* doctors.

I refuse to keep quiet when I think I have been attacked for making my choice

or when I think I can perhaps save someone else from making a mistake.

However, once I do tell them what I know or lead them to further information,

if they still insist they want the RNY, who am I to deny them the lovely

journey they desire for the rest of their lives?

Hey - dieting DOES NOT WORK, whether you diet before wls or after your

stomach is butchered as in RNY. That is obvious because people who have RNY

without the malabsorption GAIN their weight back once they stop dieting.

I read in a woman's magazine the other day something that said to the effect

" we are all dieting more and yet more and more Americans are over-weight than

ever before. "

Duh - I guess they still haven't gotten it. I have lived it for over 50

years. Yes, over 25 diets later, I have lost on a few a couple of sizes, on

others lots of sizes, but with each diet, I gained back what I lost plus MORE.

I still say that those who start dieting when they are only 5 lbs

over-weight, will eventually gain back 7, then diet to lose those 7, then

gain back 10.....etc. etc. etc.

eventually they will be dieting to lose 20 or more. THAT is why more

Americans are over-weight than ever before even tho they are dieting more

than ever before.

Those who are post-op *DO* post postively, and still there are those who do

not think personal experience is any measure of proof and that only a

Doctor's opinion is what matters.

I haven't posted here in awhile as I just can't seem to plod thru the many

negative posts and cat fights etc. as easily as before. But I must echo the

sentiments Dan's post.

I saw it and it reminded me of just how great life has been since my surgery

which was on March 7th of this year. I'm down 140 pounds since then and feel

absolutely GREAT!!!!!!!

Yeah! What she said!

I'm behind you, Carole, and think most of the people here are, too. What is

this forum for, after all, if not to state our opinion on (hello?) DS

SURGERY!

That IS, after all, the name on the return address. If someone comes here

just sic Nick on 'em.

Carole,

I dont think you are negative I think you are impassioned....I feel and am the

same way....When a newbie comes onto one of the list I tell about the DS and

point them in the right direction...Where they go from there is up to them....I

did my part.....I know how you feel though I subscribe to quite a few boards and

its hard having a voice when the majority have had a different surgery....I

think the only way this will change is when the NIH updates its

information....And time....when the long-term benefits of the DS and the RNY are

really compared its going to open up alot of people eyes....I am not including

the band because the band is a purely restrictive procedure.

Willbe posting some new pics soon. I would say that I am about 15-25

pounds from MY goal but if it all stopped now I would hardly complain.

Odd though how people are now telling me to stop or slow down as I am

looking to thin to them and funny how no one ever says keep gaining weight

you dont look fat enough.

Hi Carole -

I think that we have missed their point entirely. It seems that there are

people out there who don't think honesty and accuracy are always " nice. " Of

course, as we were taught since kindergarten, we have to be " nice " at all

Dan,

Congratulations on your weight loss. I am pre-op

01/09/02. Can't wait to join the rest of you. It was

really nice hearing how great you feel. Did you have

open or lap. I am alittle worried about how long I am

going to have to be off work.

Take care,

I get a lot out of the " negative " as well as positive posts. I vacillate

back and forth about getting the surgery done. The passion the negative

posts bring out also includes a lot of information. I usually learn one more

thing to help me stick to my decision and know that it is the right decision.

I don't believe that one can have too much knowledge. I really don't want

to stick my head in the sand.
