Hi ,

Would the Dr be willing to admit him, overnight, before the test?? This way

he would be at the hospital if his BS begins to drop drastically.

If not, would the Dr make advance arrangements with the ER for the placement

of a D10 IV, if his BS drops below a preset range???

I would give him his last bolus as close to midnight as possible, and

monitor his BS very closely by myself. If his BS dropped to the low normal

range, I would take him to the ER, explain that he has a test that morning

at 8am, that you CANNOT feed him, and he needs a D10 IV placed immediately,

as he is not maintaining his BS on his own.

To maintain the same number of calories, could you decrease the bolus feeds,

and give them more frequently??

With the vomiting, I would watch for any problems with aspiration. You don't

want him to develop pneumonitis, or anything like that, right before

surgery.

I remember what these " busy " times are like. Just remind yourself that it

will all end, and you'll get back to " normal " before too long!

HUGS!!
