walking with brace

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to walking with the brace. My son has

only just

started walking so he is still a little shaky anyway, but when he has his brace

on he slips all

over the place. We have hardwood floors all over our apartment and I am so sad

watching

him try to stand. The brace just goes right under him. Has anyone made the bar

slip

proof? It needs some sort of no-slip rubber on the bottom, but I'm not sure how

to do it.

Thanks for everthing!

My husband put some of those gripper stickers that are made for the

bottom of shoes on the parts of the brace that touch the floor and it

seems to help. You can get them in the shoe care section of Target,

Wal-mart, etc.

Tara,

What bar and shoe brace do you have? If you have the

Ponseti/ FAB, I have a picture of the rubber sole that I had

added last week which solved this problem. Hardwoods here too. She

loves her new traction.

LMK and I'll send you a pic and if you have the other shoes, there

are some options there too (bar pad mostly).

Oh, Kori,

That would be awesome! We have the Ponseti/ FAB as well. I would love to

hear

your solution. It is so difficult watching him trying to walk.

Thank you,

Tara

i just sent you a pic of the rubber sole we have. For whatever it's

worth though... Darbi *adapted* really well to slipping. She found a

way to scoot walk across the floor in her FAB and while it was slick,

she didn't fall most of the time. Occasionally they'd go right out

from underneath her and she'd land on her butt but she was totally

able to walk unaided without the traction for nearly a year before we

had that done. New shoes are always more slippery than scratched up

worn in ones :~}

to see how she did this, check out these videos:

(and I have since painted the living room! looks much better and

it's even clean now!)

Those videos are absolutely awesome! My son is only 14 months though and has

literally

only been walking for days so he is very unsteady. I think the rubber would be

very helpful

for him. Darbi couldn't be cuter!

I guess I am off to target tomorrow and a shoe repair place...

Kori,

I was wondering what the other gripper/pad options were for the Dennis

Brown shoes? We have tile at our house and Caleb gets so frustrated

attempting to stand and slipping over and over again. Any tips would

be awesome!
