Two people dear to me are trying to get approval for the DS!! One is

my younger of my brothers (still five years older than me.) The

other is a friend at my hospital. My brother is going on faith from

what I've told him of the DS and the research he's done on the DS

sites. He hasn't seen me in a few years and has no idea how I look

since surgery.

My friend is an insulin dependent Type II diabetic. She's been

following my progress and is ready! She's getting her psych consult

next week, has switched to the insurance plan that covers DS (ours

is an employer owned insurance plan, not a national insurer) and has

called to make an appointment for a January consult with Dr. Booth

in Ocean Springs.

I'm so proud of both of them. There are a couple of others who are

thinking about the DS. One had an appointment with the local RNY doc

but asked me for info on the DS last week. I printed out everything

I could find (including Heidi's comparison chart) and walked it to

her. Another friend, in our lab, is interested but very wary. She

was handling the concept pretty well til I showed her Dr. Husted's

site. (She's the first negative reaction I've had to that!) Of

course, she says she'd have it if it could be done with an epidural

and she was awake for the whole procedure, to make sure no one said

nasty things about her. Don't know if she'd pass the psych test at

this point! LOL

Then there's the ER case manager, the two RNs on the HEM-ONC unit,

the RN on orthopedics, the unit clerk from PCU, etc.

I'm hoping this will become a positive trend here. Maybe we can even

lure a DS doc to our hospital here in Florida.
