Guest guest
My son's 4 months old and in the boot and bar. I'm going to pass on a suggestion I read from another mom which was to put a piece of duct tape over the laces and buckle. Hope it works because I haven't had to try it yet. > > Hi...My 18 month old son is currently wearing the db brace for naps and > night-time. Guest guest
Thanks...but you would have to tape and retape everytime you put the shoes on? Could make it kind of sticky?! > > > > Hi...My 18 month old son is currently wearing the db brace for naps > and > > night-time. Guest guest
One option is the surgical type tape that only sticks to itself, not anything else. I am not sure exactly what it is called. . . . Guest guest
YES!!! Thank you! I went through their website and it kept erroring on me when I went to open the .pdf. Frustrated to no end trying to remember what it was called... I ended un-installing and re-installing Adobe even. yeah, we liked that stuff. It's holding Darbi's second to last cast together right now :~} Hot pink actually and they gave us the rest of the roll too. It should work till he figures out how to unwrap it >:-} At 01:11 PM 3/13/2006, you wrote: >CoBand? > >frogabog wrote: ugh, i can't remember either >but I know it's made by 3M. > >The stretchy stuff right? > > >At 02:19 PM 3/10/2006, you wrote: > >One option is the surgical type tape that only sticks to itself, not > >anything else. Guest guest
I have not been able to find the shoe lace things.....but unfortunately they would not keep him from unbuckling the buckles. My husbnd found some velcro strap that seem to have helped so far. We started using them on Saturday and he has only gotten his shoes off 1 time. I am able to wrap the velcro over the topa nd tuck the laces under. We are keeping our finger crossed that this will continue to work! Thanks for everyne's help! > > > > > > > > > > Hi...My 18 month old son is currently wearing the db brace > for > > > naps > > > > and > > > > > night-time. Guest guest
Funny how creative we have to become with the brace sometimes, the velcro sounds like a great idea! What a little houdini undoing the laces AND straps! & Grace > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi...My 18 month old son is currently wearing the db > brace > > for > > > > naps > > > > > and > > > > > > night-time. Guest guest
Sounds like a great idea to me, too. Would those colored velcro straps that you use to strap cords together work, too, or would they be too small? There are some under the computer desk as I type, I will have to crawl down there and see if they would work. If so, you could color coordinate them with his clothes. and > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi...My 18 month old son is currently wearing the db > > brace > > > for > > > > > naps > > > > > > and > > > > > > > night-time. Guest guest
They are the red ones my husand found to tie cords together....he only has to wear his shoes for naps and bedtime but color cooridnation is a great idea! Any other ideas??? He can still get the velcro off. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi...My 18 month old son is currently wearing the db > > > brace > > > > for > > > > > > naps > > > > > > > and > > > > > > > > night-time. Guest guest
I finally found those things. Go to ebay and do a search for " bow biters. Guest guest
, I'm just curious about this whole question. I just can't imagine a 4 month old being able to undo these buckles. Not that I'm saying I don't believe you, lol, just curious if there is something about your brace set up that could be changed to help with this. Can you tell us a bit about how your shoes and buckles are set up? Are the buckles on the inside or outside (right or left) of the shoes?, are they on top of the laces or under the laces? Do they go through the bottom slots on the sides of the shoes or the top? Hopefully we can come up with a real solution for you. Thanks, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi...My 18 month old son is currently wearing the > db > > > > brace > > > > > for > > > > > > > naps > > > > > > > > and > > > > > > > > > night-time. Guest guest
, I think you've got 2 people in this thread mixed up. 's son is 18 months old (and with great fine-motor skills!). 's son is 4 months old. As far as I know, he's not undoing his laces yet. , have you considered having your little guy sleep in a sleepsack? That way, he wouldn't have access to his shoes at all. And if he can undo the zipper on the sleepsack, have him wear it so the zipper is in the back where it will be really hard for him to reach. Guest guest
Thanks Naomi. Damn, I thought we had a really dexterous kid on our hands here. I was so confused! Hmmm, Sammy is almost 18 months and he never messes with his shoes at all except to help me put them on. Well, I guess that doesn't help one bit, does it? , one thing to consider is WHY is he untying or unbuckling? Is it because he wakes up and is bored and just decides to play with them? Or do you think there's any kind of issue with them bothering his feet, like maybe getting too small/tight? Anyway, just a thought. > > > > They are the red ones my husand found to tie cords together....he > > only has to wear his shoes for naps and bedtime but color > > cooridnation is a great idea! Guest guest
I think the whole reason he takes them off is because he does not want to wear them. (I don't blame him!) I usually do not have any problems putting them on at night. If he wakes up early enough in the morning and I do not hear him he will start to play with them. When I go in to get him up you can see the concentration in his face as he trys to get them off. He will usually fight putting them on for his naps and that is when we really have problems. We have to go in there 2-3 times to put them back on. It is getting really old! The laces tie down at the bottom and the buckles are on the outside of his shoes. I have tried everything except duct tape, which I am sure will work but it will be entirely too sticky! I take him to Shriners and they did not offer any suggestions that I have not already tried. Agggg! What to do! > > > > > > They are the red ones my husand found to tie cords together....he > > > only has to wear his shoes for naps and bedtime but color > > > cooridnation is a great idea! Guest guest
, Is he interested in incentives yet? He might be too young to grasp the concept, but maybe you could see if he'd respond to getting small rewards for leaving his shoes on until Mommy says it's time for them to come off. Or use an alarm or timer to beep in the morning when it's time for them to come off. If he's fighting them at nap time, would your schedule allow for you to do all of the hours at once in the evening and early morning and not have to put it on during the day? I'd also check to make sure that the width is correct for him so that it's not uncomfortable. Hang in there!!!!!! & (3-16-00, lcf)
Guest guest
The reward thing sounds good but her sure does not understand that! We just had the soes check and they are perfect. He has done this since the day he started to wear them! I guess I can say we are half way there! > > , > Is he interested in incentives yet?
