Guest guest
Thanks ; Boy...I almost changed my mind about surgery. When I eat sushi I only eat crab, shrimp, cooked eel and veggies. The only raw fish I enjoy is tuna. What kind of bad reaction are folks talking about. You would think that sushi would be good for folks. Fondly, sandy --- Manero wrote: > Don't panic. Guest guest
Hi Sandy: I eat sushi all the time and I love it, the only problem I have with it is the rice is very dense and way to filling but I gobble up the raw fish and clams and shrimp and I have found I really like smoked eel also. As a matter of fact there isn't much I can't or don't eat. Since surgery I have not liked chicken so I don't eat it although every once in a while I can eat a couple of fried wings. I can eat the skin off the chicken no problem at all. I do not eat spaghetti any longer from angel hair to linguini they just don't sit well and I have trouble keeping them down. I can however eat shells, elbow, zita and lasagna and bow ties, go figure! I no longer like sausage the spices don't sit well and I no longer care for eggs either but other than those few things I eat everything else and I eat a lot of it. I eat a lot of fats! I started out slowly adding fats to my diet something like a tablespoon at a time and now I eat it at every meal. I love crispy fat on my steaks and chops, brown sugared and baked until crusty fat with my ham, roast pork burritos 2 at a time sliced and chopped with the crunchy fat and wrapped in flour burritos. I love corned beef with carrots and potatoes and I do not prefer it lean. I have found I have trouble eating really lean meats the seem dry and dense to me and with less flavor but that is my personal opinion. I use butter or Golden Soft margarine on most of my foods. I eat carbs, baked potatoes, rice, mashed potatoes with enough butter to tinge them yellow and make them creamy. I like potatoes with cheese, au gratin and scalloped. I eat almost all veggies except that I no longer care for fresh broccoli but enjoy it frozen and I do not eat beans in general but then I have never cared much for them although I love Cuban black beans and rice I just put mostly juice from the beans over the rice and although I don't eat chicken I really enjoy chicken and yellow rice Cuban style loaded with rich saffron. I eat bread but not a lot and I preferred hot rolls or bread when I do eat bread although I still only eat peanut butter and jelly on plain old white bread with an icy cold glass of milk. I have become lactose intolerant so I take Dairy Care once a day and it seems to control that problem. As to sweets, I eat something sweet everyday, it may be cookies or a slice of pie or cake although I do prefer pie. I eat candy when I want it which isn't often and I do eat ice cream I even go to 31 flavors and order a banana split, now I cannot finish it at all but I do enjoy what I eat of it. Now the first 12 weeks after my surgery I ate almost nothing I just felt sick and frustrated and I really only ate 1/3 cup of cream of tomato soup every 2-3 hours and sipped at water. After that I began to add other foods but I did not eat sweets, I had absolutely no desire and I found anything sweet was to sweet so I just did not eat it. I steadily added foods and then as now there were and are days I feel like I eat all day long and others that I have to force myself to actually eat because my tummy doesn't seem to like anything even though it loved it the day before, those are the days I will whip up a protein smoothie made with Designer Protein Natural flavor and pineapple and yogurt and that takes care of my protein intake. By the time I was 19 months to 2 years post-op I had lost 224 pounds and I have stayed at right around 162-165 pounds. You will be able to eat believe me and you will lose weight because this surgery does it's job and as long as you do your part, eat enough protein to keep you healthy, 80-100 grams a day, you always take your supplements and I mean always! you will lose weight. The only thing you really have to pay attention to is your sugar intake because we absorb so much of it and you will slow or stop your weight loss if you try to eat as much sugar as you can get into you. You will do yourself well if you get into some kind of exercise program, if you have trouble with your legs then do water aerobics they are easy on your joints but will strength your muscles and you will be so much better off if you start working on your muscles right from the start and not wait until you have lost a lot of weight it is no easier to wait then it was when you are heavy so teach yourself while you are losing and make it a part of your life not unlike going to work or bathing or brushing your teeth just something that you do as a normal part of your like 2-3 times a week. And last (and I am sure you are saying thank God!) walking! It is so very good for you and your body, do it slowly and add distance once or twice a week, I started out walking down the driveway and then added one house at a time until I was going all the way around the block and if again you have trouble with your knees and hips then walk in the pool once across to start then add laps until you are going around the pool 5-6 times and your heart rate increases which is good for you. Now I am almost 3 years post-op. Would I do this again? You better believe it! In a hot minute it is the greatest gift I have ever given myself, life. Huggles, Tiger Lake Female 160 lbs.
