Guest guest
Can't you bring your own booster seat? And car rental should be about $20-$25/day if not less. I'm pretty sure my dh just got a minivan in San Diego for about $21/d. Like this morning. Go to something like travelocity or expedia and look there for the real rates. I think he rented from Fox this time. He rents from the cheapest that he can get at or very near the airport. Also, take a compact or something like that... and when you get there there's a pretty good chance they're out and will have to upgrade you anyway. Or they'll offer the upgrade just because Collin is cute. And good lord... tip the driver?? uhhh... maybe a couple of bucks. It's his job, he gets paid to shuttle people places. no way would I tip more than $2. Aren't you spending enough to get Collin seen there? Let someone else tip him for the same ride, he'll make enough money. Sorry but... I am not sure I see the reason for tip in the first place. ESPECIALLY if they charge you $35 to drive to the RMH. Right... THAT's an appropriate charge for people going to the RMH... Rent a car. Save your $35 and $2 tip and give yourself some freedom while you're there. You can get pretty cheap rentals and you'll have a lot more fun I think. Guest guest
It's 25 miles - We did $10 but the RMH said that may have been a little higher than normal (??? We had no idea either) Re: Getting To/From Cedar Rapids Airport? What's a good tip amount for the driver? I never take shuttles or anything, I have no clue...I know it's not too far of a drive right? It will just be me and Collin. Do you think like $5 or more like $10? I don't have the slightest clue ever!!!!! LOL!!! Michele
Guest guest
Hmmmm . . . we were the only ones . . . but there were supposed to be others that did not show up. But, the man at RMH said that they have an agreement to not charge - and he sends a thank you card once a quarter to the owner - he told us to ask them directly about it if they tried to charge us . . . I don't know if I would be bold enough to do that, though! :-) Also, when you rent a car, you have to park about a mile from the RMH to park free or pay a $20 refundable deposit and $20 for the week for parking (just for your info to add in while thinking of costs...). Re: Getting To/From Cedar Rapids Airport? Thanks , I just called over to the Shuttle. He seemed like I was bothering him LOL! I'll take your advice and just wait till I get there, he said they take reservations up to a month in advance, but when I tried making them he seemed like he didn't want to do it. I figure I must have caught him on a bad day or during lunch time or something. He said it will be free as long as there are other paying people in the shuttle, but if it's just me and Collin they charge $35.00 for a ride to the RMH. But that is still much less then renting a car. Thanks Again!!! Guest guest
OMG - are you serious? That's not right... a mile or $20? Are we talking about Iowa City here or Los Angeles? sorry but that kinda bugs me. Guest guest
The deposit is for the parking pass itself - I guess so someone doesn't decide to take it home with them for a souvenir! :-) You get it from the RMH - they said through the University was much higher! Guest guest
ok, check off airport rental companies. Most of them have a shuttle bus you can take. that's wrong... They're screwing with you. It DOES NOT cost that much for a car rental!! I am SURE about this cost and dh is renting in some pretty big locations (LA, SF, Chicago, etc.) because his company pitches a fit if he spends more than $25/day for a car. try travelocity or expedia. Really, most rental outfits do have a shuttle from the airport if they're not on site. Busses run every 15-20 min from what I remember. I've rented off site many times and used these shuttles. Pretty easy even with multiple kids in tow. Guest guest
, There really isn't much free parking in Iowa City. You should see the town during football or basketball games!!!! People will park in business lots in Coralville (those on " the strip " / 2nd St. and walk to Carver Hawkeye Arena or Kinnick Stadium (which is right across from the hospital). It amazed me when the hospital started (a couple years ago) to validate the tickets from the parking garages right around the hospital for patients during the week. Maybe I'll post about free parking for the next symposium if people are interested wrote: > I don't know about anyone else but I was rather surprised that there's > not much in the way of free parking in lil ol Iowa City. Guest guest
Hi, I think you can get great deals on car rentals through Priceline. I did a quick search on Priceline and this is what I found: $29/day compact...$31/economy....$35/midsize....$39/standard or full size with Alamo. Also with Hertz you could get a car for one week from $193 (economy) to $244 (full size). You could even get a premium car or SUV for $249 for a week so $200 for 4 days does seem a bit high. (I did a search based on keeping it for one week). Good luck, Halley Original Message----- From: nosurgery4clubfoot [mailto:nosurgery4clubfoot ] On Behalf Of Sent: March 14, 2006 1:35 PM To: nosurgery4clubfoot Subject: Re: Getting To/From Cedar Rapids Airport? Michele, It says right on their website: Here is how you can return your vehicle After Hours: PLEASE LOCK CAR DOORS AND THEN PLACE KEYS IN THE KEY DROP BOX. THE RENTER'S RESPONSIBILITY FOR VEHICLE CONDITION ENDS ONCE AN ENTERPRISE-RENT-A-CAR EMPLOYEE INSPECTS THE RENTAL VEHICLE THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. * KEY DROP BOX IS LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING. You should just book it through the website. They told me that usually you get the best rates when booking online anyway. > > I tried that, I told him I could do that, I would just take the free > shuttle to the RMH and rent it from there, but he said there is no way > I can return the car on a Sunday. Guest guest
Michele, I have 2 backless boosters here at home that we aren't using. If you'd like to borrow one for Collin, let me know. michele_and_collin wrote: > Thanks for all of your help.
