Guest guest
Um, you probably don't want my opinion on this. The FAB is as non-negotiable as playing in traffic with a sharp knife in their hands. I don't sugar coat such things, I don't bribe or sweet talk or ask. It just IS. Screaming and kicking or not. On a few occasions Everett has tried to demonstrate his independence regarding the FAB. He picked a fight he lost, and since he lost, he stopped fighting. s. Battle Royale to put on shoes.... Hi All! Any parents of toddler aged kids - any tricks to avoid a huge struggle while putting on the mitchell shoes at night? Livi has never really cared before, but all of a sudden she has started screaming " NO SHOES!!! " and kicking, twisting, running away.... every night this last week has been a struggle. I've tried singing to her, giving her a milk sippy, giving her teddy, sitting with her in different positions. THe bar length appears to be OK. Help! Guest guest
Darby, Have you asked her why? Does she talk well enough to tell you if they are hurting her? You might try widening the bar anyway, just to see if it helps. No red marks or booboos on her feet? Shoes aren't getting too small? That's all I got. Sorry not much help. > > Hi All! > > Any parents of toddler aged kids - any tricks to avoid a huge struggle > while putting on the mitchell shoes at night? > > Livi has never really cared before, but all of a sudden she has started > screaming " NO SHOES!!! Guest guest
I'm the same way - kicking and screaming or not, the shoes go on. It's just such a pain as she does everything in her power to get away. I'm hoping this is just a phase. She does not talk well enough yet to tell me what is wrong. She is outgrowing her shoes in length... I just ordered a new impression kit today so I can get some new ones. Bar looks OK, but maybe I will try making it a bit longer tonight to see if that helps. IDK what it is about turning two..... Thanks ladies! D. > > Um, you probably don't want my opinion on this. Guest guest
Around the time turned 2 he started to fight having the shoes put on. I found distractions work well for putting on the shoes. loves Barney, so I put in a Barney video or put Sesame Street on for the five minutes it takes to get his shoes on. He doesn't even notice I'm putting them on and if he does he often unconsciously moves his foot so the shoes slide on easier. I highly recommend distractions! and bilateral cf dbb 14/7 \ > > > > Um, you probably don't want my opinion on this. Guest guest
Darby, Try reverse psychology. Go to put her sock on, then pull it back and say no. go to put it on the other foot, pull back say no. If she's like most 2yo's, she's going to start to put her foot into the sock for you just to weird you out. Keep it up, keep pulling back and make a game. Pretty soon she'll be really WANTING to put her socks on. Same with the shoes, try to put it on her foot, then pull back and say no... you can't have it. She should also soon start shoving her feet into them just to go against what you're doing. I used to do this a lot with Darbi, the boys really loved watching that game and often ask me to do it even now. lots of laughter and silliness with this game. same one I used to use when I wanted a kiss. If I asked for it, they may run off and say no. Then I'd say *Don't you kiss me, no way I don't want none of your kisses*. mmmm... got more kisses than I'd asked for in the first place that way! Guest guest
Ahhhh yes - the joy of having an almost 2yo lol!! We go through the same thing around here every once and a while. I am a pretty no nonsense kinda person so when Grace starts these fits it's nipped in the bud (usually lol). I have and will with no problem hold her down with my hands and leg to get her shoes on although she has only had one really 'bad' episode about getting them on and I think that it was because she was havin one of those 'bad' days, getting into EVERYTHING - I know you kwim!! I too would say not to give her any kind of treats etc when trying to get them on her, the last thing you want is to make it seem like she is being rewarded for this kind of behaviour (as long as you are sure that her shoes/bar are ok, which sounds like they are or you would have seen red marks etc probably) because it sounds like she is testing her limits with the shoes (as she is with a lot of things if Livi is anything like Grace who is very strong willed). I'm sure that you'll figure it out! So when is the big 2nd birthday? & Grace 22mos urcf FAB 13hrs > > > > Um, you probably don't want my opinion on this.
