Guest guest
I recently was told that I was not correctly understanding the way the bar should be measured. So here is the right way I was told to measure. The shoes should be on the OUTSIDE of their shoulders. So measure their shoulders from outer to outer. It is easier and more accurate to do this while laying them down. And compare that length to INNER heal to INNER heal.
Guest guest
you know Christee, I think you might be onto something. Try this, put the brace on the floor soles down. Lie Lilee in between the shoes with her shoulders at the heels. Does it fit comfortably? (not snug, not loose) Is this easy? Anyone else with little babies please et me know how this compares to trying to size the bar with baby upright. Easier or not? If anyone does this and has a camera handy I'd love to see any pictures of you trying this out. Darbi is way too old to test this with myself lol. Guest guest
IT's liable to be. My Garrison started at 7 1/2 inches at 3 weeks old and we've already had to extend it an inch (he's now 2 months old). Depends on the size of your baby. s. Bar Length I posted a few days ago about our son, Zachary, just going into the DBB and having difficulty with slipping and sleeping. Thanks to the responses, we have been able to get rid of the slipping and blister problems thus far. However, I was just looking at the picture of the bar width in the photo gallery and I realized that our son's may be way too short, which explains why he's having trouble getting comfortable at night. I'm going to go check that now. He has a gold bar and it is 7 inches (as indicated on the sticker at the bottom of the bar). Zack is just over three months old. Is 7 inches too short? Guest guest
Our daughter started out with an 11 inch bar at 2.5 mos old. We are in Vancouver and are seen by Dr. Pirani who has an amazing ortho that he works closly with, she also has unilateral right club foot herself. Granted, Grace was a big baby with wide shoulders (which I can personally attest to LOL) but 7 " for a 3 mo old sounds way way to short! When you hold the bar up to his back the heels should be touching the outside edge of his shoulders. I would absolutely be wanting to *return* that bar for a longer one since it was way too small in the first place! This is the most common mistake that we hear orthotists making - bar too short! Since it sounds like you will be *educating* your ortho a bit, you should print out a copy of the tips and tricks document to give to him/her so that they might learn something which will help other lil cf babies they will be fitting in the future. Good luck and let us know how the appt. goes! & Grace 22mos urcf FAB 13hrs Vancouver BC Canada I posted a few days ago about > our son, Zachary, just going into the DBB > > and having difficulty with slipping and sleeping. Guest guest
Dorthy, The inside edges of the heels of the shoes should be at the same distance as the width of her shoulders. You can see a picture of how to 'eyeball' this measurement at http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links-ivil Go to the bracing section and scroll down to see the picture of the little boy with the brace held up to his back/shoulders. Some parents use the centerbolts that hold the shoes on the bar as the end points instead of the inside edges of the shoes. This just results in a bit shorter length. I hope this helps! > > Hello, I think I need to lengthen the bar on Janie's PM's I need to > know if it is shoulder length from heel to heel.
