Guest guest
Hey Switch Bro, Thanks so much for saying this. I was only in surgery for about 3.4-4 hours and I have the worst cramps in my hips, its unbelievable. I wake up cramping up....and can't quite figure out how to get to them to relieve the pain. It's basically from the pelvic bones down to my knees on both sides. I will walk, take a muscle relaxant when I am brave, or just moan but no position relieves it! Can that short of a time on the or table really cause this??? How is your stomach feeling, btw? I am glad to see you posting! I ended up having a pain in the left lthigh and found out it was a pinched nerve -- heat and muscle relaxers did the trick. Guest guest
I was on the table for 10 and a half hours. I had diabetes before the surgery....the trauma of the surgery, so two neurologists have told me, kicked off some fairly severe neuropathy in my feet and right leg, as well as the small of my back. I have a numb patch right on the " saddle " of my back, and a lot of numbness and washing pain in my right foot, as well as patchy numbness up and down my leg. Right after the surgery it was pretty bad, but has moderated....now, after 16 months, I still have the numb spot on my back and numb toes and foot, and the occasional washing pain across my foot. The foot also gets cold REAL easy....not to the touch, but it FEELS cold, unless I take great care to keep it very warm. But it was all diabetes related, they tell me...a parting curse as it left....I am not diabetic any more since the weight loss. Ford Re: Re: Pins and Needles & Cramps, Oh my!!! Guest guest
Hi, Ford! Regarding this: > I am not diabetic any more since the weight loss. I have a slight, but very important correction. The reason that you are no longer a diabetic is NOT because of the weight loss, but because of the unique and somewhat unexplainable action of the D/S surgery in and of itself. (Please don't make me find the medical article(s), but I can if you really want it/them!) This surgery is simply miraculous for you diabetics! I love hearing about how the disease is CURED by the D/S!
Guest guest
Really? I didn't know that...someone (god knows who) told me that I was diabetic because my body was not able to distribute the insulin appropriately due to my weight, and that, as I dropped the weight, it would be better able to do so. I believe you....especially since I can't even remember who it was that told me that. All I know is....I don't have diabetes any more. I used to have high blood pressure, too, but don't any more. The other thing is that I have Mitral regurgitation...a leaky heart valve. I was in serious distress before the surgery, and now...well, my cardiologist did every kind of EKG known to medical science, including a stress test to see how my heart is doing now, and she tells me that surgery is just not indicated now. It's not gone, but it's just a minor issue for now. I told that to Dr Elariny at our monthly meeting...he said " Who knew a bariatric surgeon was such a good cardiologist? " . I responded that " Everyone knows the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. " <snicker> Ford Re: Pins and Needles & Cramps, Oh my!!! Hi, Ford! Guest guest
Hi again, Ford. Maybe someone else will read these messages and tell us what article the diabetes stuff is found in. It's one of those " benchmarks " that we've all referred to from time to time. Scorpinaro? How'd you get the regurgitation? Phen/Fen? I have very, very mild mitral valve regurgitation myself, quite possibly owing to my having taken those diet drugs. Gagner picked up on it by hearing a murmur kind of sound during my examination, and this before I told him about it. I guess these bariatric surgeons know what kind of danger signs they wanna be looking for before they commit themselves to the responsibility of surgery. Makes sense, of course. Best, > Really? Guest guest
Kris, Grinning, I got it before the " cuddling " and ummm, that would not have impacted for reasons I really don't think anyone wants to hear! Laughing...but it was a darn good suggestion! Hugs, Theresa DS 11-19-01 Dr. Jossart -13#s (I have ankles and one hip bone! Yeee Haw!) > | > I have been experiencing pain in my thighs. Guest guest
I don't know how I picked up the Mitral Regurgitation....possibly as a complication of my Congestive Heart Failure. I had moved to Virginia, and was making myself known to the doctors at the VA, where I was going for medical care at the time (oh, lord....) and one day while I was in for an appointment, I felt WAY worse than usual, more tired, more short of breath, more generally ill. Finally I got a doctor to look at me, and my heart rate was 160. They admitted me immediately. I was in for 4 days, and gained new meds to keep the heart rate down. That was when I knew that I had to do something about my weight. They told me I was gonna be dead in five years if I didn't. Guest guest
Thanks Ford, I have had that cold foot thing going on since my last hospital visit for my knee! Guest guest
Yeah....my wife asks me if it doesn't drive me crazy. I tell her it doesn't bother me as much as being dead would. Guest guest
Hi Theresa, The surgery went well. It was a shock to my system. I was in recovery for 24 hrs. BP sky high. Ive been home since 11/23. I cant sleep at night because of the pins & needles in my thighs. Dr Macura said that I spent 3 1/2 hrs on the table and this, with laying down in recovery causes this feeling. I have no problem eating or drinking. I'm burping, pleanty of gas but knock wood, 1 BM in am. I dont know if this will change but Im not complaining. I hope everything turned out great for you. Let me know. Guest guest
I would buy in to this explanation of leg pain except for the fact that I had it before surgery.
