,When my daughter was in PT, I remember her therapist talking about children whose tilting was indeed caused by vision problems. Seems like it might be worth checking out. I would definitely insist on a pediatric opthamologist. My daughter also began PT at 6 months for right-tilt tort. Her therapy lasted about three months and she no longer has muscle tightness. However, occasionally, we will see her revert back to tilting when she's sick or very tired. Her therapist said that this would happen because the tilt is a "comfort thing" for the child. However, if you are still seeing the tilting despite resolution of the tort, it sounds like something else might be going on.Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out.-AmyFrom: L <ebychrs@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Tue, July 20, 2010 10:05:41 PMSubject: lingering Torticollis

My daughter has had a major preference for turning her head to the right and tilting to the left pretty much since birth. Of course, the turning to the right caused Plagiocephaly on that side of her head. After her 6 month appointment we were referred to a physical therapist which we've been going to see ever since. About a month after starting PT, she got the band, which she just got removed last week. So we've been going to PT for about 5 months now. She has gotten MUCH better about turning her head to the left. She is pretty much over that part. But the tilting has her therapist stumped. She was tilting for the longest time to the left. Then she started tilting to the right. The therapist said sometimes that can happen. But then the next time she was tilting to the left and it's pretty much been back and forth for about two months now with some days where she holds it pretty much straight. The therapist said she's never seen it

swap back and forth like that. She thought maybe it was due to weak core muscles because she was slow to crawl and mostly army crawls, but today she said she was transitioning and crawling really well, so she doesn't think it's the core muscles anymore. Last PT she was tilting to the right and now today it's to the left. She says after 11 years, my daughter has finally stumped her. The last couple of appointments the therapist said that her neck muscles weren't tense and she didn't have the red crease on her neck, either. She's wondering if maybe she has a vision problem. Which watching her play and pick up food and things like that, I've never thought to myself that she was having problems seeing. So maybe she has problems seeing further away? Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and could shed some light on this. We're doing the neck stretches at home about 5-7 times a day. Thanks.

What images have you had? Xrays, CT, MRI?

That will give you a better understanding if there is anything structurally going on that could cause the tilt.

My dd had unresolved Tort and so xrays and CTs were ordered... it looked like a possible problem with the c1-c2 vertebra... but by the time she was about 15 mo. and it wasn;t better they did an MRI which showed that she had spinal cord anomolies.

Not to say that this is what is going on with your baby... but imaging can be a very helpful tool.

Also, my dd had her eyes and brain scanned before her spine to rule out anything there 1st.

HTH!!!

So far we haven't had any images taken. Her 12 month appointment is the 18th

and I will mention the things you all have suggested. Thanks so much.
