Guest guest
I see posts where new post-ops have problems drinking water and I wonder if one has this problem, how does one know if/when they get dehydrated? Because I know you have to go to the hospital to get an IV if that happens. Carole

Guest guest
Carole, Believe me, you know! I woke up one morning and my eyes hurt, my kidneys/back hurt, I was nauseous, dizzy, etc and I had been feeling pretty good for days before that..it took me almost until that night to put all the symptoms together and realize I was dehydrated, so I stayed up longer than normal that night and just drank fluids..my kidney's stopped hurting first, then I was less dizzy, etc. I went to bed and the next morning I still had low-grade nausea, but I felt SO much better. I didn't have to go to the hospital for IV's because I wasn't severly dehydrated, but I think if you feel that way for more than a day, you probably should. I called Dee that night (Dr K's nurse) to confirm I didn't have to go and she agreed that I could stay up and make sure I got in at least 40oz of Gatorade before I went to bed to make sure I was hydrated and my electrolytes and potassium were helped by the Gatorade as well. Guest guest
Amy, I'm so glad you finally went to the doctor and got the help that you needed. You are lucky that you only needed the two days in the hospital. But you better watch yourself. If you are unable to eat much, drink much and keep up that glucose level, then you are going to wind right back in the hospital. Please keep trying to eat and drink little bits every hour or so. And let us know how you are doing. Jodi Z
