Daryl is well known for not getting the insurance approval until the last

minute. For some it was one week prior to surgery. He got mine at 2 weeks

prior, but I was bugging him almost every day for 2 weeks.

How soon you will be able to travel in different from person to person. Some

do very well and feel great after surgery. I, however, could barely make it

to the Guest Residence 4 days after surgery. from Dr Herron's office

had told me surgery on Friday, out on Monday. But the day of surgery Dr

Herron informed me he likes another day in the hospital. I was released on a

Tuesday and was suppose to travel home to PA via Amtrak on Thursday. I kept

putting it off because I was in a lot of pain. I finally went home on

Sunday, after my son came to get us in a car. I did not feel up to the taxi

to the Amtrak, then the walking and wait at the train station, plus the long

ride home via Amtrak. It was much faster by car, and a lot easier on me. I

can not even imagine trying to fly home at that time.

I hope your surgery is a success and your recovery is very quick.

BTW, I did not have any problems with the Guest Residence. My problems were

with the nurses at Mt Sinai. :)

Gabrea,

I was able to travel 10 days after surgery, but keep in mind I was going from

California to Colorado, so I wanted to make sure everything was fine before I

left. It was a total of 3 1/2 hours and it was uncomfortable, but I survived.

Since you'll probably having lap surgery, you may be able to leave earlier. You

should discuss this with Dr Herron. As for Darryl the weenie..it's a

tossup..sometimes he can pull approvals out of his a$$ a few days to a week

before surgery and other times your plans are all made and he's screwed it up.

He also gets pissy when if you call him too frequently. I would have never been

able to deal with Darryl without going postal on him, especially when trying to

make plans to come in from out of town. Personally, I would talk to Dr Herron

(or email him since I think he checks that) and let him know you need

confirmation of your insurance approval and surgery date at least two weeks

before your scheduled surgery so you can make firm plans and book your plan

tickets. I know Dr Herron feels bad when other people have complained about

Darryl screwing up their insurance or waiting until the last minute, but

honestly, him feeling bad is not going to help you make plans. I would just be

honest and aboveboard and let him know you need Darryl to give you this

information by 'x' date. Hopefully, he'll talk to Darryl and will make sure

Darryl provides the information you need in a timely manner.

Good luck!

I'm

also interested in any comments about the Newton Hotel. That is were my mom

will be staying ( I think) The $300.00 more a night for a private room is a

bit more then I can afford right now and the Residence hasn't had great

reviews either. If anyone has any other suggestions on a hotel or

accomodations please let me know.

GA, I just went to NYC last week and stayed at the Quality, about a short

block away from the Newton. It has a private bath, and actually was less-my

room was under $80 with my AAA discount. When I go for surgery though, my

friend is planning on staying in the room with me, and asking for a cot. I

heard that others have been able to do this. I think you are allowed to go

directly home after surgery.

Hi,

I had surgery on Tuesday and was discharged on Sunday and I took Amtrak home

which took a couple of hours. I did fine. DR Herron was my surgeon also.

I also stayed at the hotel Newton before surgery...that rate was great for

NYC. Mt Sinai has discounted rates there.
