Dear Lydmam,

It sounds like you are describing an AFO style brace on your daughter. If that

is the case I just want to warn you that AFO's have proven effective only in

damaging clubfeet. They do not hold on to any correction whatsoever....which

may be the reason she is back in casts at this age and stage of the game.

I would really recommend honey that you seek a 2nd opinion on your daughters

feet with a qualified Ponseti trained doctor. It might sound impossible but we

can help you find one, and find transportation, etc. Hundreds of parents on

this group have done the same thing(s) - started out with rough treatment and

changed to a Ponseti doctor using Angel Flights for travel and perhaps Dr. Dobbs

in St. Louis for free medical treatments. It is possible, I promise!

The only other promise I can make is that your daughter is headed for trouble if

she's in an AFO (plastic boots with no bar between them). I'm not here to beat

you up - my oldest started out in AFO's and ended up with much trouble as have

others here.

Please let us help you figure out the best course of treatment so your daughter

can get on with life on two good feet!

Blessings to you,

ee

Shoes covering braces?

New here. My 9 1/2 months old daughter has bilateral CF. She has been

wearing braces and she nows stands up holding onto her superyard. Her

orthopedist's assistant advised us to put shoes over her braces so she

won't slip. Was any of you recommended to do so?

I just bought at Walmart size #2 Faded Glory brand and I am waiting

for her left casting to be off to try these shoes on.

Also, her orthopedist never talked about the DBB? He recommended that

DD wears her braces 23/24 until she starts standing. After age 1, she

can have her braces off during the day only. Any feedingback ?? Thanks

Lydmam
