Well Holy Socks !!!

You have been through alot--you were most unfortunate to have a

pulmonary embolism, but most fortunate it happened inraoperatively.

Will you be on blood thinners for awhile? There aren't any others

are there? When will you have followup scans?

The worst is over--hopefully the remainder of your recovery is a real

bore!!! sip, walk and rest!! Glad to have you here in Switchville.

lisa: thank god you are home and doing well now! that was quite a

scare or two that you had. you nearly lost your life trying to save

it! but your angels were watching over you, weren't they. and now

the worst is over and you are home healing nicely. may the rest of

your recovery be smooth and uneventful.

i too fainted in the hospital and when i came to there was a whole

room full of nurses! i scared the daylights out of them all. my b/p

dropped really low as well, so they started a new iv and gave me

fluids with potassium. tested my blood, and decided i needed a unit

of blood too. so i know some of what you went thru. after that bit

of excitement, i started doing a whole lot better. don't really know

what caused mine, but all is well now. i am 4 mos. out and getting

stronger every day. i'm back driving a school bus and it doesn't

bother me at all. so give it time, take it easy, and eat that

protein to get your strength back. take short walks to keep your

muscles toned, or you will feel weak for a longer time.

keep us posted on your progress.

's Surgery

Hello everyone I'm Back. Sorry it's been awhile. Surgery was a

little ruff. The initial surgery 11-13-01 went well no problems.

Went to regular room after recovery. A few hours later when I tried

to get up to walk for the first time per my request things went down

hill. When I got up I felt light headed so sat back down, I

unfortunate for nurse, passed out. My blood pressure dropped very

low, resident thought it was epidural so they shut that off. A few

hours later I noticed blood on my gown and when I picked it up there

was a lot of blood so it is discovered that it wasn't the epidural

that was causing my BP to drop and in fact I had an internal bleed

going on so its back to surgery for me. When the surgeon got inside

the bleeding had stopped on its own but not before I lost too much

and had to have 2 units of blood. When they took me off the

operating table I apparently had a pulmanary embolism and stopped

breathing so I was put on ventilator. I stayed in the Recovery room

team. They not only took care of me but Dr. Ren was also there for

my husband who I am sure was besided himself through all this, since

we were out of state there was no family or friends around. 13 days

after my first surgery I am getting around okay no incisional pain

since both surgeries were done laproscopic. I am having some trouble

getting enough water in but I am working on that. I do get worn out

fast so I can't stay on computer for long periods of time. I am sure

all of this will get better with time. Well I hope everyone is doing

well and for thoughs who are scheduled for surgery soon, I am sending

wishes your way for a safe journey and speedy recovery. God Bless

the Surgeons and all of you for the much needed support.

's Surgery

I could deal with him throwing up blood, fainting, looking like a ghost

cause

he was so pale but what scared me th most was when the nurse came to

take us

down she said " oh, wait I have to put some numbing gell on your eye " I

said

" we have had this surgery 3 times I never heard of such a thing - could

you go

check? "   She came back, red-faced, and said " Oh, wrong patient sorry - I

got

the rooms mixed up. "   Moral of the story- ALWAYS, ALWAYS question

everything!!

We is awake today and feels fine!!!! No throwing up...he is back to his

Hi all,

Just wanted to give you an update on . He had oral surgery on

Tuesday to remove some permanent teeth (they ended up only removing

one and may do more at a later date). He also had 3 teeth uncovered

(2 of which I knew were there & 1 surprise one) and a gingivectomy in

which some of his gum tissue was removed. He had a little difficulty

recuperating from anesthesia this time around, but made it through

ok. His mouth and cheeks are still swollen and he has stitches

inside his mouth that make it difficult for him to move his lips, but

he has done well with the pain (not complaining too much).

is going to need much more extensive work before he can even get

braces. I was wondering if anyone else had gone through a similar

experience with dental and orthodontic procedures?

On another note, is going to be 12 tomorrow! I can't believe

how fast the years have gone by. For all you parents of young ones

out there, you'll be surprised how fast the time goes despite all the

difficulties you are facing now. was extremely sick when he

was younger & still deals with more issues than the typical RSS kid

even at his age. Despite everything we have gone through with him &

what we continue to go through, the time goes by super fast, and it

does get easier as the years pass.

On a final note, we are again preparing for yet another hurricane.

We'll be putting shutters up this weekend & hoping for the best. To

everyone else in Florida, I wish you luck in weathering out the storm

& that you and your family stay safe.

Kim,

I was thinking of you all last night. I'm so glad you posted about

's progress. I hope he recovers quickly. I know too well

about oral surgery and how painful that is. Gosh, I just had a tooth

removed a little over a week ago and it still hurts. I can't imagine

what feels!

Take care during that hurricane if it EVER arrives. My mother and her

husband decided to leave Florida for what they thought would be a long

weekend. They left on Thursday. I guess they will be gone longer

than they thought.

Hi Kim,

Thanks for the update on 's surgery. We went through some similar issues

with Charissa, so I looked up an old post & updated it for you here. (The

original reply was post #19507)

Charissa didn't need to have permanent teeth removed, but had extensive dental

surgery twice, in conjunction with surgery to close a hole that was left in one

eardrum after her last set of tubes (took 3 tries before the hole sealed

successfully). She always complained more about ear pain than her mouth after

these dual-surgeries!

Charissa has small, crowded teeth, and a big overbite, but is also missing many

permanent teeth. She is missing the 2 on top (one on each side of her front

teeth), all but 1 of her wisdom teeth, and I think a couple of other teeth too.

Most of her permanent teeth were late in erupting and many of them were delayed

in forming. She got her 6 year molars when she was 15 & had a bone age of 12.

Her last 2 12-year molars were about 1/2 in when she was 17 and her bone age was

around 15. They are all in now.

Some of Charissa's baby teeth just weren't coming out & the permanent ones

couldn't seem to dissolve the roots (they were " stuck " ) and were ankylosed (sp?)

- the baby teeth were sinking into the gums. So she had several baby teeth

pulled during 2 oral surgeries when she was around 11-12 years. (I think the

total was around 8 teeth) The ped. dentist & orthodontist looked at her bone

age, but there were a lot of other factors to consider too. In some instances

she lost the baby teeth, but since the permanent ones weren't coming the gums

got very thick & tough. One of

the surgeries was a gingivectomy like had - the dentist cut away this

tough gum tissue to expose the tops of the well-formed permanent ones that

couldn't seem to make it through the gum tissue. We had to brush this raw gum

area firmly several times a day with a special toothpaste so the gums would heal

with the teeth exposed instead of heal back over the teeth. That was the worst

thing I have ever had to do to her - 13 years of GH injections were a piece of

cake in comparison.

Charissa also had about 10 years of orthodontics to correct all of her problems.

One of her upper permanent eyeteeth was actually pointing to the back of her

mouth instead of down, so one of her surgeries they attached a pin & wire to the

tooth while it was still up in the gum and attached it to her braces to pull the

tooth into place. It worked great! She finished up the extensive dental work

about a year ago, when she had dental implants to replace the two missing top

teeth. It was expensive (about the same price as a year of college!) but they

look great!

You will be in our thoughts & prayers as you prepare for & ride out another

hurricane. Stay safe & keep us posted when you can.
