I doubt that you'll honestly get much of your questions and concerns answered here... Now, if you're lurking just for lurking's sake, ok. Perhaps you want to see what post-op DS life is like, etc. But -- why post? What is the reason behind it? I hope that your RNY works the way you anticipate and you have severe enough dumping to never consider eating sugar again. Eventually, EVERYONE who has WLS must learn to curb sugar cravings because the dumping syndrome is not guaranteed to be permanant. The surgery will not necessarily keep on in 'check' for life regarding sugar and 'bad' eating habits, IMHO. Guest guest
Ok - is it me? Does this list say 'duodenalswitch'? The title should provide a clue as to the outlook, emphasis and bias, if you wish. I think that looking for support for options that are not termed BPD/DS is best served on aptly and differently titled boards.
Guest guest
Easy now, everybody. It was one person in one message who used the word " stupid " . Please don't condemn all of us as insensitive. We are here to support anyone. However, you will probably get more and better support that is specific to your choice, RNY, on an RNY list, not on a DS list. We talk about DS, before, during and after. If you haven't decided 100% on RNY, maybe you'll find something here that solidifies your decision or offers something you might like better. That's up to you. I support you in whatever choice you make. In no way am I saying go away. I will continue to look forward to your input. But again, please, don't generalize about everyone on the list based on something one person wrote... or was it a few people? I don't know how many. Let's say 20 people on the list think RNY'ers are " stupid " There are 1553 other people on this list who don't. We don't all think you're stupid. But thanks for pointing this out to the group that name calling hurts. Jean. p.s. I still don't understand the RNY vs DS all-or-nothing mentality. It's small-minded. Guest guest
There are different groups for the different types of WLS; this is just one. When I first started researching, I joined many different ones so that I was sure to learn of all that was available. You might find it helpful to remain here and go to yahoogroups.com and join others so that you get a good 'flavor' of all that's available so that when you make your decision, you'll know it was a informed one and not one-sided. Again, good luck. Guest guest
If you have truly looked at all of your options and remain dedicated to the RNY, you will receive nothing but support from this group of people. Don't let a 'sweet tooth' be the only reason you chose the RNY, tho. The RNY, if it is not a distal, will allow you to regain weight (due to no malabsorption), and you may be one of the ones who do NOT dump with the RNY; therefore no added restriction there for you. You do not regain weight with the DS, and it's a very high possibility with the RNY due to the increase in pouch size over time and the ability to 'graze' your weight back on. Just be sure to look at all surgeries with open eyes, and we'll support your decision either way ... even tho we're very biased ). But we should be, this is a DS group, and I think you'll find the RNY groups to be equally as dedicated to that procedure. You'll figure out what is right for you. But remember that you will have to live with your final decision, so be careful to collect all the data you can. Guest guest
Hello again, - HELLO- anybody home? Haven't you noticed that we have almost to the one been telling you that we don't like sugar much any more? We only eat small amounts of it, and then, only upon occasion? Have you heard many of us complain about our weight loss? Do you think you are so different from us? Well, let me answer that. You have voluntarily chosen the RNY. I guess you ARE STUPID. That would set you apart from the average DS patient. xxxooo Nick Re: DARE TO BE STUPID > SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST IGNORANT I GUESS. I DONT GET SOME PEOPLE. I NEED TO CHANGE MY LIFE.......IF I HAVE DS.....I WILL BEABLE TO EAT ALL THOSE THINGS RIGHT? " I had my surgery 16 months ago. About 4 nights a week, as I'm going to bed, I eat a nice, fun, generous sized cup of good, not-lowfat ice cream. I eat cake and cookies and even candy bars on occasion. My taste for these things has changed....I don't crave them as much as I used to, but still enjoy them. Do I " dump " ? No. Did eating this stuff slow my weight loss? Could be....but I ended up losing 260 pounds, more or less (up over 240 this morning, but I've been hovering around 240 for 3 months). Do I feel like I need to somehow punish myself because I used to be fat. Yeah. <laugh> But I get over it and enjoy all of these days I never thought I'd have. Guest guest
I have a list that our new-found, all-caps-loving RNY fans should love. Just click on this and join Sue Widemark. She'll respect you in the morning! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WLS_uncensored , a group which, of course, is heavily censored by the tyrannical leader. Guest guest
Yeah, well, so okay....I lied about the guilt. Well a bit...I do feel guilty sometimes....when I eat something I used to not be able to eat, that I used to feel guilty for...that old guilt sometimes kicks in. It can be confusing. The weirdest part is that I used to be a compulsive eater, and I still am. I find myself sometimes sitting here craving more food, even when I'm so stuffed that I am almost ill. I just found so much comfort in the process of eating I think. But after the surgery, I find it easier to separate the cravings from the need to eat....it's a lot more obvious where the compulsion lies, and, once identified, easier to deal with. Guest guest
, if you wouldn't mind including the part of my message that you are responding to, I'd appreciate it because I have no idea what DS-bashing you have seen me doing here seeing as I have never once expressed an interest in the RNY.
