As I mentioned in an earlier post, we saw our dietitian last week who

recommended putting Bobbi on 50/50 Peadiasure with fibre/Infatrini Formula, but

it isn't going well as Bobbi doesn't like, refuses to drink the Peadiasure

(Vanilla) the flavour is so strong, she won't even drink it diluted and as it

doesn't come unflavoured I am a bit stuck with what to do next. Also the

dietitian has taken her off the supplements we addded to her milk in the hope

she will drink or eat more solids, so far she is taking slightly more but is not

getting as many calories?

Does she like any flavor you can add? They have chocolate, strawberry, banana,

orange pedisure. At first na didn't like it either and we were afraid she

would just keep losing. We tried it cold she wouldn't touch it. Then one day she

finnally drank it after she rolled the can around the floor and brought it to

her dad saying open then he gave it to her with a straw and she was drinking it

from then on. I hope something works. iIll say a prayer for you guys.

Brigitte,

Have you tired any of the other Pediasure flavors?

' " Kid Approved " vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana cream, and orange cream

flavors encourage compliance.'

Hi Brigitte,

Hi! It's been a while since I've been in touch. Hope things are going

well with you & Bobbi despite the obvious dislike of eating/Pediasure.

Our dietician also tried on Fortini (various flavours) - very

similar to Pediasure - and refused them all. We tried all sorts,

mixing it with the Infatrini, ice-cream, other milk etc, but to no

avail. We did try for 3 months to give the benefit of doubt, but

she wouldn't have it. So the dietician moved her onto Nutrini

Hi-energy. It is really bland and says 'for enteral use only'

(tube-feed) but takes it fine from the bottle - the dietician

said it's recommoended for enteral use because of its taste, so who

knows what 's taste is?! We also tried her on Calogen supplement

for about 6 months last year, but it was becoming more and more

difficult to add it to food without getting fussy about the

food. Last month we started her on Duocal, which seems to be really

helping, and I find it a lot easier to add to milk, custard, icecream

etc.

I'd suggest persevering with the Pediasure for a while longer (hard as

it is!), and if it really doesn't get better, then phone the dietician

and ask for an alternative. Every child is different, and it seems

some things work for some, and other things for others. I hope Bobbi

continues to eat a bit more and put a little bit of weight even if she

won't take the Pediasure.

I had a look back through 's red book and guess what... at 15

months, she weighed 13lbs 8oz and was 67cm tall (26.5 " ) - very simliar

to Bobbi!

We just had her weighed today, and she's almost up to the 0.4th

percentile for height AND weight! She's now 24lbs 1oz and 87cm (34.5 " )

at 3 1/4 years old. I don't want to speak too soon, as things can

change so very quickly, but for the past 6 weeks has been eating

better than I have ever known, and even seems to be enjoying her food!

It's been a long hard struggle re: food up to now, and I'm sure it

will never be her strong point, but it has been so nice to see her

actually enjoying things. I really hope that you will have the same

with Bobbi when she is a bit older (it would be lovely if you could

have that now, but I think with RSS kids that's unfortunately not very

likely!)

Anyway, I hope you keep well. Would love to hear more about Bobbi -

maybe we will meet at the UK convention in October?

Take care

Brigitte,

I believe, but am not sure, that there is the enteral formula of

Pediasure which is technically meant for tube feeding, but can be used

orally also...I think it is unflavored.

Hi

Good to hear from you again and it's good to hear is doing really well

(gives me hope) I have spoken to our dietitian agian to ler her know Bobbi is

refusing the Vanilla peadiasure and she is sending a few other flavours in the

post to try. I think our best bet is chocolate but guess what they don't do

peadiasure with fibre in chocolate flavour, more than anything I was hoping it

would help with her constipation, as time goes on she seems to need more and

more help to go!

The dietitian also suggested stopping her supplements (Calogen and Maxijul) to

see if her intake of milk & food would increase, so far (since last Sunday)

everyday she has taken a bit more, today she took 470ml in 6 bottles (up approx

100ml) from before, over all she is taking about the same amount of calories,

but obviously it's better to get them from milk than supps. I am also offering

her food 3 times a day now, she still doesn't have alot but I'm hoping it will

increase over time (she still loves her chocolate mousse)

Her vomiting has improved alot too down to probably 1-2 a week rather than per

day! But she still coughs alot though.

She has learnt to get about by bum shuffling instead of crawling, it is so funny

to watch and she goes at quite a speed now!

Can't wait to meet everyone at the convention in October especially . Hope

to hear from you again soon, take care

Sheryl,

Hailey gets the enternal kind and she is not tube fed. It is

flavored vanilla also. If it was not for Pediasure, I do not know

what we would do because Hailey will not eat much of anything else

(Even CANDY). I have tried her on the ScandiShakes which she takes

her spells on. I like it because it is 600 cals a shake. We have to

give her 2 shakes a day if we want her to gain weight and sometimes

she bulks. Does anyone give their child the boost high calorie

puddings. I have quite a few of them and they are going to go to

waste because Hailey will not eat them at all.

Hi Brigitte,

Nice to read your reply - I am pleased to hear that some things are

getting a little bit easier with Bobbi - the vomiting, the increased

eating etc .. hopefully she will like another of the Pediasure

flavours. Otherwise, could you get the one for enteral feeding as

someone else here recommended - as I said, this is the Nutrini that

takes. You could always add chocolate powder to it for

flavouring, maybe???

Re: the constipation - hope the fibre will help out with this too.

now suffers from constipation - it's been getting steadily worse

and when she started to complain of tummy ache, and 'the poo not

coming out' we took her to the docs, and he prescribed Lactulose. That

said, at our recent dieticians appt she recommmended a new drug named

Movicol, which she says is really good and not too harsh on the

system, so I am going to ask the GP for that.

Glad to hear that Bobbi is a bum shuffler too! Just like , and I

gather a lot of other kiddies here too. bum-shuffled from about

14 mos until 18mos, when she finally took to her feet. We were amazed

that she walked so soon really, seeing as she could hardly sit

unsupported at 10 mos, but she did!

Anyway, hope things keep Ok with you and Bobbi - look forward to

meeting you in October!

All the best
