Guest guest
Since I have been on this list, I have added to my list of daily mantras. I started out in early adulthood/marriage with " I will not kill him, I will not kill him. Then came the kids and " we will not eat our young, we will not eat our young. Then I went to college, graduated and got a job (backwards I know) and I added. " I love my job, I love my job " , (this must be said with the oft practised " perfect smile " ) Then I found the DS (I am not going into diet mantras, the never will be enough bandwidth for that!!!) I added these: (practicing now for use in 3 weeks) " protein protein, protien first, protein protein, protien first! " " MY poop dont smell, My poop dont smell " " It was the dog! It was the dog " (with appropriate injured face) " Water, water, water, eh! water, water, water, eh! " Now, I look forward to including: " Floaties are goooood, Floaties are gooooood " Thanks yall for a wonderful year of learning, letting me experience your joys, frustrations, ups and downs. Thanks for you advice and Humor. Happy Thanksgiving/Harvest Ru--20 more days to go!! -- Re: I am so depressed!! ............ I gained weight this week!!!........Help! At this moment in time I feel like it will happen!!!!!!! >> Jody: First off, let me say that I think it's totally N ORMAL for one's body to gain some weight (I've gained anywhere's from 1-2 to 4 lbs) in the cycle of weight loss. Don't worry, it isn't permanant and it WILL come off again. I'm not really sure why it happens, but it could be water retention, etc. The body holds on to EVERYTHING it can and goes into starvation mode, even when being 'tricked' by the surgery to lose weight. I weigh myself often and discovered a pattern of losing a bunch of weight then plateauing for awhile. When I plateaued, I would gain a few lbs. That's always how I knew I was on a plateau! LOL It was like 'oh no - not this again!' :) Your body could be particularly sensitive to this weight loss pattern and it's trying to maximize whatever you give it and hang on when you gain a few pounds. It's GREAT that you're eating more protein and watching your intake. Don't get 'too low', though or this WILL put the body into starvation mode. Sounds weird, I know and goes against everything we've been brainwashed about how the body actually loses weight.... but, EAT (healthily) -- don't shove it in if you don't feel like it but DO eat until you're full and satisfied. FOCUS on protein and get enough in (even added shakes/bars as needed). High protein will help speed up the metabolic process. DO eat some carbs in the mix --- it is not healthy to go into complete ketosis (where one only eats protein). You can limit the carbs to maximize weight loss but do have some fresh veggies, fruit and other carbs as they suit your taste. Keep well hydrated (which it sounds like you're doing).
