From MAGIC: If a Research company contacts you

Hello -

Jen and Katy here, from MAGIC's RSS/SGA division (so we are writing

as MAGIC not as parents right now).

Another listserve which has some MAGIC parents on it received an

email from a research company offering money and enticements to get

these parents to do a survey with them on a GH product. It led

these families to think that MAGIC had approved this company.

It is VERY important that all of you understand that there are good

research companies -- reputable ones that know how to handle

children and also that know how to keep information confidential,

and there are a whole lot of other ones out there.

MAGIC will NEVER give out your name or contact information to ANYONE

or ANY company. If our board reviews a request by a company, and we

feel that it is worthwhile, WE will send out the information for the

comnpany (which we just did for RSS/SGA families living in certain

states; and also a company that did some research at the convention,

giving children who participated a $25 Best Buy gift card).

However, if you are ever contacted directly by a research company,

please know that MAGIC did NOT give them your name, and did NOT

approve such contact or research.

If, especially during the next month, you receive any such contact

from a company and NOT from MAGIC, directly either through email or

mail, could you please email Katy and/or immediately. We

are trying to find out how they are contacting families. With this

particular listserve, it appears that they " joined " as a family, and

then after a while, POSTED their research opportunity.

MAGIC is going to take steps to ensure that such actions can't

happen on our own MAGIC Networking List. And I am sure that the

moderators of this listserve and other ones will also be vigilent.
