Guest guest
I used Miralax for my son before we became GFCF, so I don't know about it's standing in that respect. But as far as softening things up, it really, really worked for us. Good luck, Debbie
Guest guest
Rosie, Miralax is gfcf. I checked it out. My son is 6 and we started at 17g per day and went up to 34g. We saw no positive effects other than it is easy to hide in things as it dissolves. It only made my son leak, but produced no movements. Guest guest
I have used Miralax with my child since going GFCF. Pretty sure it is CF, but not sure on GF. Basically, it is a complex form of antifreeze (which is ethylene glycol; Miralax is polyethylene glycol, and has been occasionally used in place of antifreeze). Supposedly, the molecules in Miralax are too big to pass through the gut, but who knows (especially with our kids that tend to have the leaky gut anyway). He has seemed to have some reaction to it since going GF, which makes me think that it is probably not GF. Still, it is the ONLY laxative that works on him when he needs it, and it is still better than a trip to the hospital ER, IMHO. Milk & Molasses Enemas are wonderful. They work on my son when other enemas, laxatives, stool softeners--well, when nothing else works. I have used milk substitutes with this, but be sure to get one with a high fat content. Regular (undiluted) coconut milk works the best, I think. Instructions I was given: Use a regular sized (not child-sized) enema bottle--empty it and clean well. Mix equal parts (about 2-3 oz. each) of molasses and milk (in my case, coconut milk) in a microwaveable container (pyrex measuring cup works well--then, you can just pour the mixture into the enema bottle). Microwave just until lukewarm; stir well. Pour into enema bottle. Administer as if a regular enema (moms, you know the drill). Repeat up to twice a day for up to three days, or until the child has passed two solid stools. Note: This is VERY effective, so have plenty of diapers or pull-ups on hand. Also, VERY messy, so have plenty of towels on hand when you do this. Also, it is good if you can keep the child on his side for a few minutes after giving the enema. Well, at least they smell more like gingersnaps later.
Guest guest
Yes we used Miralax without much results. It is gfcf - our pedi GI said it was safe - however, it can cause lots of bloating and gas - which is what happened to our son. We hoped it would help but it only made him worse/. Guest guest
Sorry to say but our GI spoke to the company and it is not GFCF! Our GI told them it was a 911 emergency and we needed to know 100% and they stated that they could not guarantee.
Guest guest
that's funny as our GI called as well and was assured it was gfcf. I also called. My son is very sensitive, so I always check things first(well, except the suppository I gave him!). I really hate getting different answers as we have been using this(without success) for 4 months.
