Guest guest
Hi Marci, I've always let Alister 'do' all his hours in one go, ie I put the shoes on in the evening and then took them off after 18/16/14/12 hours, regardless of whether it was nap time or not (well, not if he was actually sleeping at that time of course... ). Now he's supposed to be in them for 12 hours a day but to be honest I just do it from when he goes to bed until he gets up which is usually about 11 hours, I hope at this age (3 1/2) it doesn't matter. All the best, with (3.5y) and Alister (3.5y, right CF, Ponseti method, UK) --- marci21175 wrote: > Hi All, > > It's been awhile since I've posted so first I'll > recap: Mollie is 11 > months old and is doing great. Guest guest
We have also always done Graces' hours all at once. Honestly, putting her brace on once a day is enough for me personally. Our doc. Dr. Pirani said at the beginning that this was fine. Good luck with getting your hours reduced! & Grace > > Hi All, > > It's been awhile since I've posted so first I'll recap: Mollie is 11 > months old and is doing great. Guest guest
Marci and Molli- Mason and I go back to see Dr. Dobbs again in two weeks too. He might be at the same point that Molli is(his birth date is 05-23-05). I get mason in his brace around 8pm, give him an hour or so break in the morning while I'm getting ready for work, and then I put the brace back on mason before I take him to daycare. He will then get his brace off right after lunch time-which ends up to be about 15-16 hours total. IF mason takes a nap, it's usually late morning so he still has his brace on, but if it's in the afternoon by chance, I just leave his brace off-he has already gotten his total time in the brace for the day-plus I don't have to worry about daycare getting it on him-she just does his exercises twice while he's there. Just my input :-) Maybe I'll see you in St.louis though-do you go to Shriners? Guest guest
Niki & Mason, Yes, wego to Shriners on May 8th. It would be nice to meet you, as well as anyone else who will be there then. Mason's routine sounds a lot like Mollie's in that if she does nap in the morning she is still in her shoes. She gets nappy around 4:00 or 5:00 pm and that's the one I worry about whether or not to re-shoe. It seems as if most people do not if they've got their hours in, so I'm gonna try to stop worrying about it (but I'm sure I can think of something else to worry about LOL!!) Guest guest
Niki, We're from Indiana. We did do fun drawings on her casts, but I don't think I posted much about it, though. Are appt is at 8:00. I am short with short brown hair with blonde and red stripes and glasses, my husband is tall with short black hair, moustache and glasses, and Mollie has wild hair and yells " dadadadada " the whole time were there. Also, Jackie usually carries her around and shows her off while I carry all our stuff!! Guest guest
Marci—well I must be thinking of someone else then, but I’m sure that I should see you there sometime on may 8th. I’m tall with blonde-ish/brown hair, and I should be with my dad, who has brown hair and a belly(that best describes him :-) ). I don’t think that my husband will be there, but if so, he is tall and slender with dark brown hair, and a reseeding hairline(man, I hope they don’t see this! :-) ) Niki & Mason (5-23-05),rcf, dobbs RE: Re: naptime Niki & Mason, Yes, wego to Shriners on May 8th. Guest guest
Hi Marci, In my opinion, I wouldn't give up too often. As a mom who went through my daughters treatment twice, I don't negotiate her hours often. Lhea wears them 14/7 and does have BCF. We do have Lhea on a schedule though. See, we put on her shoes at the same time every night (unless there's that exception as mentioned above) and they come off at the same time (or as adjustments are made) every day. Since she's on her schedule, she knows when it's time for 'night-night' and to be honest, not only has it been this way from day one, but there's minimal fussing. By the way, she'll be two next month. Just as many parents have mentioned, our kids are so resilient and they do go with the flow on schedules. Hope this works for you. I know not everything works out for everyone. She switches back and forth between the Dobbs brace and Markells on the red adjustable bar. She wears it 16 hours a day. I like to put it on by 8:00 pm, then in the morning she usually gets an hour break, then I put it back on for her remaining time. We go back to St Louis in two weeks to see Dr Dobbs. She is pulling up and standing very well and has been for awhile and this week she has started cruising some. I am hoping that she will get to go down to 12 hours, but my question/problem is what about naptime? I know it's " nights and naps " and I am very strict about her shoe hours, but Mollie is not a very good napper. She gets very sleepy and needs a nap but somtimes just laying down with her while she nurses and rests is good enough for her and then she's back up at at em! Sometimes I can get the shoes on her while she's asleep without waking her and sometimes I can't. If she wakes up while I'm doing it then she is crabby for a long time before she finally crashes. I hate to cheat and leave them off, but sometimes she needs a nap so bad (or maybe I need her to nap so bad lol!) that I'll give her 30 min before I try to put them on in case she does wake up. Well, that was quite a ramble just to ask what do you do about naps, shoes or no shoes? Guest guest
Jen, Mollie has fat, complex feet and in October when we first got the Dobbs brace her feet just were too short and fat to stay in them and they also gave us the Markell's to try and see which we liked best. For the two months she only wore the markells, then after she grew some we started putting the dobbs on her. The markells left red spots on the sides of her feet and toes, and the dobbs left red places on her heels, so we would switch off to keep from getting sores. Then Mollie got to where she would only sleep in the Markell's and so she wore the dobbs during the day. We haven't had any trouble with sores or red spots in a long time now though. Then somewhere along the line she got to where she wouldn't wear the markells for more than a few hours and now she won't sleep in them at all. Because the Markell's and bar are flatter, I've been trying to get her back in them during the day so she can walk better, but it doensn't seem to matter to her, she is getting around fine in the Dobb's brace. I've not been on here in a few days, so please don't think I was putting you off.
