Guest guest
My son had what his doctor explained to us as a " heel cord lengthening surgery " at 3 months. The procedure was done at a hospital and Weston was completely sedated. Is the correct term for this procedure tenotomy? Or is a tenotomy something else entirely? Guest guest
hummm... that is a pretty general term. There are various procedures that could be called this. Prolly the easiest way to determine what kind it was is to ask, how long did the procedure take? And... what kind of scar does he have? Is it a tiny little thing that needed no stitches or is the scar much bigger than just a *nick*? The tenotomy, even when done under general (which is typically unnecessary) takes all of a few minutes for the actual procedure. Weston would have been in the OR less than half an hour for sure. You can always ask the doc exactly what he did too. That would clear it up. Guest guest
Weston was only in the OR 30 - 45 minutes. He has a small scar on the back of his ankle. It looks like there were two entry points. He had 2 stitches I will double check with the old doctor. Thanks! -- Re: Heel Cord Lengthening/Tenotomy hummm... that is a pretty general term. Guest guest
, My son was originally treated by a doc in CA who did a variation of the Ponseti Method. He did the tenotomy/heel cord lengthening under a general as well. I got the surgical notes so I could give them to Ponseti (we ended up going to Iowa when regressed). but it turned out to be a variation of the surgery- Anyways, the Operating Room Notes were a very helpful thing to have and they saved from needing another tenotomy. Best of luck in Iowa~ _____ From: nosurgery4clubfoot [mailto:nosurgery4clubfoot ] On Behalf Of thecookes@... Guest guest
A rose by any other name..... Actually I think it's all about the same but done in different ways, some more effective than others. My oldest had it done at 3 months old too, put to sleep for it. They nicked his heel in three spots (on each foot), it was uneffective and he had it redone in Iowa at age 2 years. s.
