Hello ,

Our son has bcf. Although he wasn't treated with the Ponseti

method as a baby(he did short leg casts, DBB, and the reverse and

straight last shoes) he had some residual clubfoot deformities. He

has not had surgery, but was recently refered to have surgery, we

tried the Ponseti method Dr and he put (just turned 4 this

week) in full leg casts for 3 weeks to correct the metatarsus

adductus(his feet were curving inward like a banana) with one set

staying on a week, and then next set for two weeks. He did have some

pain from the weight of the casts(plaster with fiberglass ontop) and

from scooting. We gave Motrin for the muscle aches, and ice packs to

help) The casts didn't slow him down. He just got his last set of

casts off and his feet are remarkably straighter, he has also been

fitted for the Dobbs bar to wear for the next 6-9mos. If his feet

try to relapse we might have to do the tendon transfer. He is having

some problems not wanting to bear weight on his feet right now, but

should pass soon. I was impressed to see a big difference in a week,

hopefully you will too! So, not quite the same problems, but I think

you will see a change with the heel. (mom to 5/25/02)
