Re: Hanger vs. Cranial Technologies

Here in Virginia, I had exactly the same experience. After much research, I

figured there were two scenarios: If I went with Hanger, I would've wondered if

CT would've worked faster, better, be more efficient, and if I was doing what's

best for my child. If I went with CT, I would've just wondered if I'm getting

ripped off. I figured I could live with just getting ripped off, so I went with

CT. I am at the 2 month mark (started at 6.5mo) and she has shown great

improvement and expected to go for 2 more months. YES, there is a possibility

of a 2nd helmet, but we are not the ones looking for a perfect 10, we just want

it to be within the 'normal' range. I am pleased with my choice and don't regret

paying out of pocket. I am gonna attempt to fight my insurance, eventhough I

know its an uphill battle.

Good Luck!

diagnosed with plagio and brachy. At 3 1/2 months, my pediatrician said he

would give him until his 4 month well-check and then would be referring him to

Cranial Technologies if he didn't see significant improvement. Being the Type A

mommy that I am, I went ahead and did his consult at CT since it was free. I

had a great experience there - they are the ones that diagnosed him and said

that at his age, treatment with a DOC band should only take 6-10 weeks. Of

course, AFTER the fact I find out that CT is not in my HMO insurance's network,

and they did not approve the referral. They are sending me to Hanger, and I

have an appointment with them this afternoon. I have been reading as much as I

can online (this group, Babycenter.com, etc.), and am really starting to feel

that a lot of parents believe that the Hanger helmet and treatment experience is

far inferior to CT. Of course I want only what is best for my son, and I am new

to all of this, so I would appreciate any input from those of you who have gone

to both Hanger and CT. What was your experience like and what made you choose

one facility over the other? Thanks so much!

I live in Columbus, OH and as far as I can tell, Hanger is the only place in my

state that makes helmets for this condition. I didn't have a choice of where to

go. My son has only been in his helmet for one week and he's doing great so far.

What I can tell you is that I've been happy with Hanger so far. It's a

depressing facility but there are no bugs on the floor. But reading all of this

negative PR about Hanger makes me VERY nervous. Also, the bit about Hanger

helmet therapy taking longer DOES ring true. A friend's son wore his " doc band "

for 10 weeks whereas Hanger is telling me 3-5 months. WHY?? I'd love to hear

from some happy Hanger campers who have come out the other side.

Hi, I am in the same situation as you. I also went to CT in Pasadena last

Friday and they are very informative and I have a great feeling about them. Of

course, my insurance does not cover CT since they are Out of Network. My

insurance does cover OrthoAmerica Starband. I found this Place in Long Beach

and I have an appointment with them next week. here is there website,

http://www.p-o-group.com/ i've been in contact with Hilda there she has been

very informative however until I actually go to the appointment I can't really

say much. i am still trying to get feed back online, hopefully someone has gone

there and can post there experience. Good Luck and hope this helps.
