Guest guest
I was not comfortable with Cranial Tech when we went to see about a helmet for my son. They seemed to me like they played on people's emotions, especially since insurance was not going to cover it. They also told me we might need a second helmet to the tune of another $3800.00 before the first one was even agreed upon. It is a BIG business. I went to cranial solutions in Pomptom Plains, NJ where I felt much more comfortable and less pressured. We are still on the fence about the helmet though. Guest guest
If you do go with CT in Paramus, try and see Margie. We LOVED her. I know she's one of the traveling techs, so I'm not sure if she's still there... we finished treatment in October, after 11 weeks. Not once did we feel pressured at CT though. I do agree that this is BIG business, but so is everything these days... I never felt like they were playing on our emotions. We were extremely emotional at the consult visit, and yes, they told us that depending on growth and progress, we might need a 2nd band. I'm sure that's pretty standard. If your baby had a growth spurt a few weeks into the band, he/she might out grow it very quickly. We didn't need a 2nd one, thankfully. But if had, we would have figured out a way. This is our child's head and anything we can do now, as opposed to possibly regretting it later, we felt was well worth it. We were very happy with CT in Paramus... and we traveled from Albany, NY, which was a little over 2 hours, each way. > > I was not comfortable with Cranial Tech when we went to see about a helmet for my son. Guest guest
Sorry you had a bad experience with CT. I haven't heard of Cranial Solutions prior to your post. Since CT is suggesting your son may need two bands, I'm fairly sure your son's plagio is not mild. If that is the case I think you really should go ahead and band. I don't know your story or your baby's age. If you son is young you may get correction from repositioning. If he is over 6 months reposition is often not very effective. Relying on growth this unpredictable since the head generally grows all over without a force to direct the growth to the flat spot. If you have questions about banding there are lots of experienced parents here. There are a few parents here who have chosen not to band too. My daughter wore a starband years ago (she is now 5) and had very good results. After her band was off growth continued, but her overall shape is more or less the same as when she graduated, so I attribute all the correction to the starband. We were very lucky our insurance covered 100% - that is unusual. Hope we can help. -christine sydney, 5 yrs, starband grad > > I was not comfortable with Cranial Tech when we went to see about a helmet for my son. Guest guest
Hi!I'm sorry your Cranial Tech experience was not a good one. I was also incredibly skeptical of the business side of Cranial Tech. They are a big company and one of their major goals is to make money. However, after our initial meeting (Oakbrook, IL) and multiple conversations with insurance coordinators I feel very good out choosing them. One of my thoughts is that Cranial Tech has gotten big for a reason. Businesses grow because they're very good at what they do. I have not heard of Cranial Solutions, either. I would encourage you to ask lots of questions. Including how many babies they have treated and the results. This is a difficult decision and you need to feel very comfortable with your helmet provider. Good luck! > > I was not comfortable with Cranial Tech when we went to see about a helmet for my son.
