Guest guest
Hi Michele, If you're staying at the RMH, the airport shuttle will take you there from CID and back to CID for no charge. When you arrive at CID go to the shuttle counter and tell them that you'd like a ride to RMH. And the day before you leave, you just call the shuttle (RMH will give you the number), and they'll come pick you up. Best, Yuuko and > > For those of you who flew into the CID (Cedar Rapids Airport), how did > you get to/from the Airport to your hotel or RMH? Did you rent a car > or use a shuttle, etc? Guest guest
Michele, $200 seems really high for car rental for 4 days, what kind of car and who are you going through? You can get an intermediate size car from Enterprise for about $25/day. If your rental period includes a weekend the rates are even better (like $57 for 4 days or $77 for 5 depending on time of day you pick up and return). My rental agent told me that if you tell them you are in town for medical reasons they should be able to give you a free upgrade too, so you could rent at the compact rate and they would upgrade you to the next class for free. allison > > For those of you who flew into the CID (Cedar Rapids Airport), how did > you get to/from the Airport to your hotel or RMH? Guest guest
We just flew out last Tues and back Wed (and actually am going tomorrow and coming back Wed) - we used the shuttle both ways. When you go to the counter to get to the RMH, they will arrange a pick up time, too. They have been very nice. They did write $65 donation on our ticket when they took us but the people at the RMH said that was not neccessary, just tip the driver. . . Getting To/From Cedar Rapids Airport? For those of you who flew into the CID (Cedar Rapids Airport), how did you get to/from the Airport to your hotel or RMH? Did you rent a car or use a shuttle, etc? I know there is a shuttle we can take from the airport to the RMH, but I still haven't figured out how we will get back to the airport on the day we go home (from our hotel), but I don't know if I really want to rent a car for 4 days, it's about $200 which seems way to much to me for 4 days. $200 seems like such a waste of money on a car I'd rather spend that on summer cloths for the family, etc or on things for the new baby coming soon..... I'd love to hear what you did!!!! Michele Collin's story at http://www.geocities.com/chele323232
Guest guest
Thanks , I just called over to the Shuttle. He seemed like I was bothering him LOL! I'll take your advice and just wait till I get there, he said they take reservations up to a month in advance, but when I tried making them he seemed like he didn't want to do it. I figure I must have caught him on a bad day or during lunch time or something. He said it will be free as long as there are other paying people in the shuttle, but if it's just me and Collin they charge $35.00 for a ride to the RMH. But that is still much less then renting a car. Thanks Again!!! Guest guest
I went online and did the free quotes from the 4 different rental car companies that the airline had, I'll try calling over instead and see if I get a better rate. Thanks for the tip. I was doing it based on the cheapest car they had and 1 booster seat. Guest guest
Hi , I just called in person to all 4 companies that rent cars from the airport (Hertz, Avis, National & Enterprise). They gave me quotes of $232, $205 and $222 for a 4 day rental (arrive Wed return on Sun) for the cheapest car they have and said there isn't any type of medical discounts or anything they could give me that it was the best deal that they had. I told each company that we wouldn't be driving much, basically to the RMH or Hospital and back to the airport but they said they still couldn't do anything. Guest guest
I don't know about anyone else but I was rather surprised that there's not much in the way of free parking in lil ol Iowa City. We luckily stayed at a hotel that validated our parking but if we had parked to go to the pedestrian mall and not been staying at the hotel it was like $1/hr. paid $4 to park at U of I during the clubfoot races (probably mostly because he didn't know where to go and just parked in the first garage he saw). allison > > > > > > > > For those of you who flew into the CID (Cedar Rapids Airport), > > how > > > did > > > > you get to/from the Airport to your hotel or RMH? Guest guest
Oh I don't doubt it, we pay anywhere from $52-$85/month for parking at Wash U. Not like there are any other options. Oh wait, they have FREE metrolink (mass transit light rail system), for those who could benefit from it, but they don't come anywhere near my house because the dimwits in St. county voted it down 10 years ago because they didn't want the " crime element " from Downtown St. Louis coming out to St. ....can you tell this is a big pet peeve of mine? I just can't stand paying to park at your place of employment. I mean seriously, they should pay me to park here. What's even worse is that the parking garage is a 15 minute walk from my office. Grrr.... allison > > > > > > > > > > For those of you who flew into the CID (Cedar Rapids Airport), > > > how > > > > did > > > > > you get to/from the Airport to your hotel or RMH? Guest guest
Michele, I'm looking at Enterprise on the web at this location: 9 HIGHWAY 1 W IOWA CITY, IA 52246-4243 Tel.: Their internet prices show for the days you specified $95 for the whole stay for the economy car, $102 for compact and $110 for intermediate. They are just being jerks if they will not give you a free upgrade. > > Hi , > > I just called in person to all 4 companies that rent cars from the > airport (Hertz, Avis, National & Enterprise). Guest guest
Hi , I tried calling the one you mentioned, but they are closed on Sundays when we need to return the car so they can't give me there prices. Also they are not at the airport so they won't pick you up there or offer you a shuttle to their location (since they have an Enterprise at the airport, I guess it steps on the other Enterprieses toes). Guest guest
That is just annoying. On the internet it says you can return the car on Sundays and drop the keys in the drop box. I can't believe the Enterprise at the airport charges so much more, I guess they just figure they can because you have no other option to get to the other location. I talked to my guy at Enterprise and found that there are multiple extra charges the airport locations charge plus extra taxes. If you want to have a car while you are there you can take the shuttle to and from RMD house and book your car rental at the lower price through the Enterprise in Iowa City at the location I mentioned. They would provide transportation to and from their office. Hope this helps, > > Hi , > > I tried calling the one you mentioned, but they are closed on Sundays > when we need to return the car so they can't give me there prices. > Also they are not at the airport so they won't pick you up there or > offer you a shuttle to their location (since they have an Enterprise > at the airport, I guess it steps on the other Enterprieses toes). > > MIchele >
Guest guest
I tried that, I told him I could do that, I would just take the free shuttle to the RMH and rent it from there, but he said there is no way I can return the car on a Sunday. I'll have to call back again and try talking to someone else, maybe I just spoke to someone there that didn't know what they were talking about. I'll call again later on today, because the prices were much better at that location. Michele
Guest guest
Michele, It says right on their website: Here is how you can return your vehicle After Hours: PLEASE LOCK CAR DOORS AND THEN PLACE KEYS IN THE KEY DROP BOX. THE RENTER'S RESPONSIBILITY FOR VEHICLE CONDITION ENDS ONCE AN ENTERPRISE-RENT-A-CAR EMPLOYEE INSPECTS THE RENTAL VEHICLE THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. * KEY DROP BOX IS LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING. You should just book it through the website. They told me that usually you get the best rates when booking online anyway. > > I tried that, I told him I could do that, I would just take the free > shuttle to the RMH and rent it from there, but he said there is no way > I can return the car on a Sunday. Guest guest
Thanks for all of your help. I think I have it all worked out now. We are flying out of Philadelphia to MN, then MN to Cedar Rapids, IA. I rented through the Iowa City location that mentioned(not in the airport, airport charges more then double). So I will arrive at airport, take the free shuttle to RMH, then someone from Enterprise will come pick me and Collin up at the RMH and bring us to the Iowa City Enterprise to Rent the car on Wed. Then on Sunday I will drive the car back to Enterprise (and leave keys in the drop box, like you said , the guy I talked to today said it was fine, the other guy had no clue what he was talking about the other day). I rented online though and saved 20% vs. what they could do over the phone for me. Then call yellow cab taxi to get a ride from Enterprise to RMH which should be under $10 (It's only a little over 2 miles), then take the free Shuttle from RMH back to Airport. Right now they estimate $76 vs. over $200 the airport wanted for the same economy car. I may still have to rent the booster seat for Collin though. I don't know how I'll be at the airport carrying a booster seat, suit case, backpack (to keep him entertained during the 2 flights), umbrella stroller and Collin and I'll be 36 weeks pregnant then! Last time I didn't bring a stroller and it was so hard for him to keep up with me rushing around the airport (we actually missed 1 flight because the security there sucked and took forever in philadelphia), so even though he is 4.5 I'm doing it this time for in the airport. We are staying at the RMH Wed March 29th until Friday March 31st. Then sometime on Friday after Collin's appoinment we are switching over to the Comfort Suites by the mall so we can swim Friday night and all day Saturday. It will be so much easier to wake up and just goto the airport Sunday morning from a hotel vs. having to clean the whole room at the RMH then rush to the airport. Friday I'll be able to take my time and clean up there. It will be nice for Collin to get to swim with me and have some special fun time alone with me before the baby comes, the hotel has a water slide and a patient rate...of course more then the RMH but I think it will be worth it in the long run!!! I don't know if he will want to do it, but I'm sure he'll at least give it a try. And we will be right across the street from the mall (he loves the playground in there and carousol!!!) He keeps asking how long we will be gone, last time I told him 3 days and it was 18 days, so he is having some trust issues with me over it, but I promised him this time we were going home April 2nd!!!!
