Guest guest
Hi, I'm new the the group. A friend of mine told me about this group and I am really thankful that there are others out there to talk to about this entire process. My son got his DOC Band last week and since then we've had to leave it off due to some eczema and redness that developed while the band was on. He's only had it a week and has worn it one day for a full day. We've been back and forth to the office three times now for an adjustment and it's still not right. He went back today and she apparently fixed it and he still has red spots. This is a very frustrating process and I feel as though we spent so much money on this that him not wearing his band is a waste. I don't want him to be in pain either so it's a no win situation. My question is how long did it take your kids to adjust to the band (1 wk, 2 wks) before he/she could wear it 23 hours a day like they are supposed to so that their head shape will improve? My son is almost 5 months and the Occupational Therapist at Cranial Technologies is saying since he's so young and he's growing so fast he could grow out of the band really fast and we can't afford a second band. I need this to work out the first time. Any advice would be great. I'm just getting really discouraged about this entire process. Thank you. Guest guest
Is the redness bright " angry " red and chafing that doesn't fade after the band is removed, or is it more rashy like eczema and sensitive skin? The first is a fit issue, but rashy skin is probably not a fit issue. For my son who has eczema, I found that cleaning the inside of the DOC band with rubbing alcohol 2x a day instead of once, shampooing every night, making sure the band and his hair and skin were completely dry by wiping out any sweat frequently, and applying 1% hydrocortisone lotion to any irritated skin got rid of most rashy areas. The hydrocortisone lotion is available over-the-counter at any pharmacy and is the only lotion allowed to be applied under the DOC band. Wearing the band for the full 23 hours is important, so I understand your frustration that you aren't getting your money's worth out of the band. I hope my tips help! > > Hi, I'm new the the group. Guest guest
My daughter is a recent DOC band graduate and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. We started the band when she was just over 4 months old and she wore it for 7 weeks, which put her just at 6 months. We didn't have alot of issues with redness. Most spots faded after the helmet was off for about an hour. It took a week or so for her to really adjust to the band but since we couldn't afford a 2nd band either, we made sure we stuck to the 23 hours a day as recommended. She adjusted well to wearing it and like I mentioned, we couldn't be happier with the results. Just make sure you wash son's hair daily and clean the band well with alcohol. As for the red spots, just make sure you voice your concerns to CT and if the therapist can't resolve the "fit" issue, ask to speak to the clinic manager. Good luck with your DOC band. > Plagiocephaly > From: shannon.pecinich@...> Date: Mon, 31 Jan 2011 19:32:30 +0000> Subject: New to the group, getting really discouraged with this whole band process > > Hi, I'm new the the group. Guest guest
We had to go back for adjustments three times the first week and two the second. The first week he only got to wear the band twice for almost 23 hours. By the middle of the second week we were good. He did out grow his first band in 2 1/2 months. Even with the slow start, we still saw some fantastic improvments. Our son did go through a second band. Good luck.
