Guest guest
We are still dealing with redness on his forehead. Any information would be great. Thanks, Jenn > > Our son is in a Hanger helmet. Yesterday we had his one week follow-up appointment and his orthotist made some great adjustments to snug up the helmet and keep it from moving on his head. > > Our little guy loves sleeping on his belly now. Last night is the second night he slept in the helmet and this morning he has a really red mark on his forehead. It is fading a bit now (still red after 45 minutes), but my husband and are concerned about the helmet pushing on his forehead at night. The first night he slept in the helmet it slipped upward and put a dent in his head clear up into his hairline, but that was prior to yesterday's adjustments. The fit seems to be much better now, but we are still concerned. Does anyone else have insights into what they have experienced with belly sleeping and forehead redness? > > Thanks, > > >
Guest guest
Maybe you can visit your ortho first thing in the morning when the redness is there? Sometimes the band does make the head red from sleeping, but it is hard to know what is too much. Often there is forehead bossing (protrusion) so putting pressure there might not be a problem. Does it bother him (is he pulling at it etc)? In any case I would recommend taking photos (I always recommend this) every week or two. You can see what is changing for yourself and see if any new problems are being created by the band's fit. -christine sydney, 5 yrs, starband grad > > > > Our son is in a Hanger helmet. Guest guest
You are so right. It is hard to tell how much redness is too much. It seems to be such a fine line. The band doesn't seem to bother him much at all (bothers Dad and I more ). We have been trying to roll him on his back when we can throughout the night as the redness is certainly at its worst in the mornings. I spoke with the orthotist yesterday and she recommended a bit of baby powder to reduce the friction. We tried it last night and it really seemed to help. I took the band off for a few minutes this morning and the redness quickly subsided. I appreciate the advice of taking pictures to monitor his progress. I also made a note of your comments from another post where you mentioned overlaying the scans. Great advice! Thanks again. Jenn > > > > > > Our son is in a Hanger helmet. Guest guest
Be careful not to use too much powder - they suggested that to us also but it dried her scalp out and made her itch like crazy and was hard to get rid of (she is a very rash-y child though so that my have something to do with it). Our Hanger helmet was very loose until the very end but when it turned red they shave those areas down and we never had any dents in her head show up. At the end when it was turning really red they kept trying to shave down but I finally quit with the helmet b/c she was obviously in so much pain crying and pulling it off constantly whereas the rest of the time when she wore the helmet she was fine with it. Fair warning - we are now in a Cranial band and felt like the time in the Hanger helmet was pretty much a waste of time...helped a little but not a whole lot. Guest guest
Good - I have definitely heard that Hanger is very different by location so hearing others positive experience means a lot! And my daughter didn't start with her helmet until 11 months and the Cranial band until 16 months and we are getting pretty good results so don't stress too much about getting banded late. I was really upset about that both times before we started the process but I am finally feeling much better about things as we see results - she will never be perfect but I will be the only one really noticing it after the fact! Good luck! From: jennifer <jnshrout1978@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Tue, January 25, 2011 3:26:10 PMSubject: Re: Day 1: Week 2 - Redness on Forehead in Morning Thank you for the warning. I hope we have better luck with our Hanger band. My husband has a co-worker who had great results from this office and the orthotist provided us with references as well. My son is 7.5 months so we don't have time on our side. Thanks,Jenn> > > >> > > > Our son is in a Hanger helmet.
