Guest guest
I recently had the same situation to evaluate...go with Cranial Tech or Hanger. After careful evaluation by my family and my son's pediatrician, we went with Hanger. We didn't make the decision based on Hanger being less expensive. My number one concern here was for my son's health and well being. We went with Hanger for two reasons. First, we really felt like the product was comparable to what was being offer by Cranial Tech. Second, the Hanger offices were much closer to our home. We are starting week two in the band and other than a bit of redness on my son's forehead we are pleased so far. Thanks, Jenn > > My 10 week old daughter has brachycephaly with a small amount of plagiocephaly. My husband and I went to Cranial Technologies and really like them. Unfortunately, insurance will only cover about 50%. We have an appointment with Hanger. I would like to know your experiences with Hanger or if you have other suggestions. I would greatly appreciate it. >
Guest guest
10 weeks is very young. Are you trying to aggressively reposition her too? You may see some improvement that way. If she is severe you may still need to band, but I would work on it while deciding. Repo can be difficult with brachy, but some tips are that she shouldn't be on her head except for sleeping and riding in the car. Otherwise try a baby carrier and don't use car seat in the house or as a carrier, don't use a swing or bouncer if possible. They all contribute to flatness. Also do a lot of tummy time. At first she may not like it. Try a colorful mat or prop a rolled towel under her arms to help keep her head up a bit. Not sure how much head control she has at this point, but tummy time will help her develop neck strength and upper body strength. Even is she doesn't like it do it several times a day and she'll tolerate it more. Also one suggestion from our doc was to put a rolled up towel behind one shoulder in the car seat to keep her from resting on her flat spot. then the next time put it under the other shoulder. She may also be ready for a bumbo chair soon. It helps support them so they can sit before they are able to sit on their own. Hanger band can be good, but it totally depends on the ortho. Ask lots of questions about how much experience they have and what kind of results they have seen. -christine sydney, 5 yrs, starband grad > > My 10 week old daughter has brachycephaly with a small amount of plagiocephaly. Guest guest
I actually grew up in Rockaway and recently moved back. Before my son got his DOC Band, I consulted at Hanger in Edison and was not that impressed with the facility or the fact that I was told the helmet was a passive band (my son had severe brachycephaly with a CI of 100%). So I went with Cranial Tech in Paramus and paid OOP. However, my son's brachy went from a CI of 100% to 86% and his head looks great now. I don't think Hanger is a bad product, but when they said passive and no holding points, I knew I wouldn't use them. From everything I read, babies with brachy need the holding points. Though I'm sure someone on this group could prove otherwise. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your reply, Robyn. We have decided to go with Cranial Tech. They were very knowledgeable. We spoke with someone from the White Plains Hanger and although they were very nice, we didn't feel they were as knowledeable as Cranial. Thank you again and I am so happy with your son's great results. Michele > > > > My 10 week old daughter has brachycephaly with a small amount of plagiocephaly. Guest guest
Thank you for all of the suggestions . I have been repositioning before we saw the specialist, and she is no longer in her swing or rocker. I am also being very creative with tummy time. She is also in a Bumbo chair. I have noticed a change in her head shape, but I don't want to wait any longer. We have decided to use Cranial. They were most knowledgeable.
