But the urine test did come back negitive for cancer so we are releved

for that Thank God! but he still wants to do the MRI.

Tori is still haveing a hard time in school I thought about takeing

her out and home schooling her but she loves going so IAm not sure.

She just wants to be boss and when she does not get her way she throws a fit

example- on Friday she did not want to hear the book so her teacher asked her to

come sit by her cause she screamed and then said no threw herself on the floor

and would not get up when told too so this took away from the reading time and

she had to be put in time out.

There are other things like waiting in line she will get impatient and push or

pinch the person in front of her.

She has a one on one aid most of the day. but still can not adjust. She is going

to start seeing the counselor so hopefully that will help.

With a one to one aide present you might be able to get a reward system

going. It's a pretty taunting task for the regular teacher, but the aide

could do it. Maybe start with the aide having a clip board with her at all

times. Every one minute that Tori is on task (in other words following the

classroom rules) she would get a tick or a sticker or whatever works for

Tori. When she has 10 stickers/ticks; she can earn 10 minutes (?? less

time???) doing something she loves (computer? playing in the house centre?

puzzles??).

Just make sure, if you did this, that Tori understands what is expected of

her.If she is anything like Adam at that age (and believe me he was NOT

going to do anything he didn't want to do....he's still like that to a

certain extent!!) but Tori is probably smart enough to be completely aware

of the rules, she is just choosing not to obey them because she doesn't want

to!!

If you can get the aide and teacher on board with this, it might help. Adam

only seems to respond to that type of system. Time outs??/ They meant

nothing to him, he'd sing and play with his fingers. No big deal to him and

then when he got " out " he'd be right back at it again.

Also something to ask the teacher. What are the other kids doing when she

acts like this?? Adam hates being " looked at " and hates kids making fun of

him but he will act so STUPID sometimes and he gets a big kick out of the

kids paying attention to his stupidity. It's like he knows he is different

and if they are going to " rib " him about being different or laugh at him,

he's going to be in control of the laughing by being the one who DOES

something to start it. Does that make any sense?? So if the other kids are

laughing or saying things like " Tori is not listening again!! " or some such

stuff, ask the teacher to please help you out, that you suspect she is

enjoying the negative attention and that you would like for the teacher to

PRACTICE (not just tell but practice ) with the other students how " we need

to ignore Tori when she acts silly, no laughing, no pointing, no telling on

her " . The teacher should only talk to the class when Tori is absent. If you

don't have a doctor's day coming up soon, I would have the aide take Tori on

a " walk " for awhile and the teacher can talk to them at that time. It will

never be perfect, someone is going to react, but if at least half the kids

stop reacting, she might stop as well. And really?? The teacher sets the

tone. IF the teacher chooses to completely ignore Tori and (for Tori's

safety) the aide handles it off from the group, the kids will follow the

teacher's lead and ignore it as well. On the other hand if she is getting

into power struggles with Tori by forcing her to listen to a story, she is

giving the other kids a great show. She should know better than to get into

a power struggle like that anyway.

I hope some of this might help as well as the other things (counsellor) you

are putting into action.

- just read your post. Sorry to hear of your difficulties

with Tori at school. Every child can be challenging at times - to

varying degrees. I've seen my spin his head around a few

times - and I've wondered who he was at the time - not the usual!!

But, if it helps, I notice that sometimes my child is worse when I'm

having bad days - and the culmination of my bad days seems to make

him have even more bad days - it's definately a continuous circle

sometimes. When I calm down - he calms down. Children are VERY

perceptive. I'm not saying its you - that's not it at all - but,

maybe it would help to view the world around Tori and see if

something externally is bothering her. Just a thought. As far as

Tori's health. My heart poors out to you. We will continue to pray

for her and know that you and your family are thought of often.

Please keep us posted. Sorry I missed your initial post.
