Can't say I've heard of this really, I only know about feet, not

knees. : ) But you should get something helpful from Dr. P. And you

can also go to another ortho, maybe someone who specializes in knees!

hee hee. (hey that rhymes!)

it. My little guy's knees have been popping like maniacs lately. It

started with an occasional popping here and there and now it's gotten

to the point where it is LOUD. I'm really worried that it's eating

away at his cartilage and will cause long-term damage. When we saw the

doctor about a month ago, it wasn't as bad and he said it was just the

knee caps sliding in and out of place. Now it has gotten so loud and

the sound is so distinct (not to mention the feel of it). It even has

started bothering my little guy. He'll let out a little cry when it

happens and then he's ok. It's hard for me to tell if he's in pain

when it happens or if the sound just scares him since he gets over it

so fast and breaks into a smile right after. He's wearing the

s 18 hours/day and the bar is should-width apart. I've just

emailed Dr. Ponset about it too, but was really curious if any of you

have heard anything about this

I don't really have anything informative to add, I guess, but one of Grant's

knees does this. I've mentioned it a couple of times to the ortho, but so far

I don't have a real definitive answer.

Question, though. Babies don't have knee caps at this age, do they? i thought

knee caps developed later, after a year or so. I wonder if there is such a

thing as a dislocated knee at this age.

And i must agree, the sound and the feeling are very disturbing!! I hope you

are able to get some answers.

okay, I found the answer to my question! They are born with knee caps, but

they don't ossify (harden, bony) until around three. To me, when Grant's knee

pops in and out, it feels like a shift or clunk. I wouldn't think a knee cap

that isn't ossified would make that kind of noise, but what do I know?? What

you are describing sounds like the knees shift and pop?
