Guest guest
Zoe, We started to reduce Tenny's hours when he was 10 months. The doctor wanted to see him on his feet as much as possible since he hadn't had much time out of casts and braces. We choose to make the free time when Tenny was awake and could be on his feet. I do have four other children so set hours every day and keeping a written record wasn't going to happen. We choose to do 16 hours straight, most of which was at night. Then get the other 2-4 hours at naptime. It was never a watch the clock type of thing in the day time, there was just never time for that. We were strict with the on and off times at night. I would also throw in a few hours if we spent time in the car or in town, or if we were going to swimming lessons and had to sit for several hours. I think we ended up with lots more hours some days than others, but we at least had the minimum hours in every day. It did feel like I put shoes on a lot. I never took them off for high chairs and shopping carts and such. So it was never off and then on again. Anyway, that is what we did. It was a crazy time, but then every minute of every day is insane at our house. Don't know if this helps. Mom to Tenny rcf 7/04 FAB 14/7 Re: reducing hours another ? Zoe, I know how hard the " multi-child " juggle is- I have 3 kids! I often struggle with just trying to get medicine doses in at the right time- and that's just occasionally, not every single day! All I can recommend is to try to figure out a daily schedule that you can stick to certain hours during the day that she's definitely in or out of the brace. I'd try to do it by the clock around her daily routine (i.e. mealtimes, play time, nap times etc.)......for example- out of the brace at 10 am until 2 pm or something like that. Figure out one or two periods/day that you'd like to have her out of the shoes. Now I haven't dealt with the brace in a very long time, and I was fortunate that I only had one child at the time...hopefully some other moms who are in the thick of it currently can give you better feedback! & (3-16-00, lcf) > > Another question to follow up on 's.
