Guest guest
Hi Amy! I swear by those 4.5 oz breakstone 2% cottage cheese, you may not have that brand where you live, try friendship, or light and lively?, I still have one every day for breakfast, and if I want a snack, like 12 or 14 grams of protein in 4.5 oz!!! ITs funny because it really fills me up! I also really enjoy this protein drink, I worked hard to make one I can tolerate, and even my husband likes it!!! So try my recipe if you feel up to it, or modify it, this makes a VERY large serving, you might want to half it. I use the Designer Protein Strawberry flavor, I buy it at GNC (I tried some of their other flavors, couldn't stand them, although the natural went down well the first two weeks post-op, the vanilla praline, ick). Might I also say, I hate artificial strawberry, or any strawberry drink, but I like this! And I dislike strawberry-banana as a combination but I crave this, go figure! =) Maya's Strawberry-Banana Protein Shake 8 oz skim or 1% milk (protein there too! 8 grams I think!), or water if you prefer I like the added protein and flavor of the 1% milk myself 2 scoops Designer Protein Strawberry Powder 1 very ripe banana (it has to be ripe otherwise its very bitter) 1.5 cups crushed ice (or if you have a good blender, regular ice) put the milk, banana (broken up into bite size pieces) and then the protein powder into a blender. liquify, or blend very well on high. Stop and add the ice. Blend until all the ice is broken down and it is the consistency of a Milk Shake (the old mickey d's ones, not the new ones). Pour into a container and drink. Very tasty! modify for your needs, its best to make it fresh rather than save it. Gives you a good amount of water too. the nutritionist was THRILLED when I told her about this drink, the protein is about 42 grams if you use 1% milk. Can't beat that! All the best!! Maya 5/29/01 Dr. Gagner down 125 lbs as of today! 40 lbs to original goal, I guess 50-60 to revised Dr. G goal! =) Protein Early On Well, I'm home 5 days now...and struggling a bit with protein. I managed to get down a Zero Carb Isopure yesterday (in three sittings) - but the smell of it is icky, even though it's fruit flavored. So, along with some tuna salad or egg salad...is it too early to try beef jerky? Any other suggestions? Oh, one thing that does sit well with me, turkey bologna (okay, only 3 gms a slice) but I usually get one in a day. Thanks! Guest guest
Maya, Great protein drink recipe!! Unfortunately, I have 'lazy chef syndrome' and it sounds like more than my normal 2-3 steps. *LOL* Maybe I'll get my Mom to do it for me..although now I sound like ! *grins* It seems like the people who are getting the protein drinks in are the ones that are making a little bit of effort and mixing in yogurt, a little bit of fruit, etc. Doesn't sound hard, but if I actually make something in my kitchen that didn't come out of the freezer, other people may go into shock! Guest guest
Hey Anita! I hear you! But try this, it sounds complicated, it really isn't, pour in milk, drop in banana, scoop in powder, pop on the blender top, blend, add ice, blend, drink, leave for someone else to clean up! =) Drinking mine now! I think its why I lost 125 lbs in 6.5 months! =) And I can relate to lazy chef syndrome, I love to cook, I hate to prep and clean. =) - Maya Protein Early On > > > Well, I'm home 5 days now...and struggling a bit with protein. Guest guest
Maya, Thanks, I may try that this weekend, after I get some bananas! My brother made me this really great protein drink, but he's not going to do it everyday for me *grins* Anita > Hey Anita! > I hear you! Guest guest
Maya, Have you tried it with other types of fruit? I love bananas, ONLY when they're bitter (grin) and abhore them in smoothies. So I was thinking maybe some frozen peaches or frozen berries instead of the banana. Cheers, Amy > > Hi Amy! > > I swear by those 4.5 oz breakstone 2% cottage cheese, you may not > have that > > brand where you live, try friendship, or light and lively?, I still > have one > > every day for breakfast, and if I want a snack, like 12 or 14 grams > of > > protein in 4.5 oz!!! Guest guest
Hey Amy! Actually, I adore a bitter banana to eat, but for some reason the riper ones counteract something in the protein powder I think, otherwise once the banana passes from bitter, I want NOTHING to do with it, I won't eat a banana unless its still slightly green. I have tried it with fresh blueberries (did nothing for the shake), and have not tried any other fruit, frozen strawberries might be nice. =) But thanks for the suggestion, I will try peaches, yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I love the libby's canned ones!!! =) Maya Protein Early On > > > > > > Well, I'm home 5 days now...and struggling a bit with protein.
