Guest guest
Hi Loren I also tried to make homemade pudding and Nik won't touch it. I buy the imagine choc pudding and he loves it. I usually buy two a week and when they go on sale I buy alot and every 3 months when I get recpit money I stock up. Basically every child has a different reaction to the GFCF diet. It took my Nik about 1 month before things started to happen ( eye contact, verbal picked up, started to potty train, decrease in behaviorsetc..) Some kids take longer than others. I chose to do testing before starting the casein and gluten free diet. I did a stool analysis from Great Plains lab and it came back he had VERY high levels of bad candida in his intestines. I basically cut out as much yeast as possible. I tried the nystatin route but Nik became VERY aggressive and was vommiting BAD so I DC'd that. I went the other route with trying to build up the good flora with Kirkmans Pro Bio Gold. FYI: I did the testing only because my insurance would cover it otherwise I would of winged it. This November we are going to re-test to find out his levels and also am adding on a mercury test and test for Celiac disease. We did a 92 food test from Great Plains to find out Nik's intolerances. If you would like there phone number I will send it. Nik also would not drink Dairy-Free matter of fact he was on Kirkmans calcium supplement for the entire first year of the diet then all of a sudden he has started to try new foods IT'S A MIRACLE and now drinks 2cups of Dairy Free at home and a thermos at school. I use McCormick spices and am told they are GFCF. I buy the big containers at BJ'S. He really is a plain person, doesn't like things spiced up. Hope I helped a little Hugs, Terry
Guest guest
We have been GF/CF for 3 weeks now. Ross still isn't eating that much. He loves the choc. Imagine pudding. I made home made and he would not touch it. I even put it in the Imagine holder and he still wouldn't touch it. The homemade is slightly lighter than the Imagine, any suggestions? We haven't noticed a great deal in changes. He flaps his hands a little less and he plays a little more imaginatively (pushes cars on a track). What things should I look for? How do I go about seeing if he is yeast, soy, etc tolerant? He only drinks juices & OJ. We water them down. He won't drink the Dairee Free milk at home, but will a little at school. What are the steps to do and which should I do first? What spices are GF/CF? Thanks so much, I enjoy this list and have learned so much already. Guest guest
Terry, Thanks so much, you helped some. Ross is potty trained somewhat (pees on potty). He has eye contact most of the time, and is pretty verbal (getting more and more). I guess that is why I am not noticing things right off. We did the lab tests w/GP also. I will have to go back and check the results. I know we did the peptide and yeast and some others. I guess I am just worried, because Ross doesn't eat that much variety and I am tired of cooking the same thing for him and having my other children complain that they have to eat the main meal and Ross doesn't. Should I just put the food in front of him and let him go hungry eventually he will eat it I assume. I think he just eats the pizza and grilled cheese, because he is jused to it and I always make it for him. If I stop and put other food in front of him and wait till he eats, is that mean? How have you all made your child try other foods? Thanks, Loren --- Beeda111@... wrote: __________________________________________________
Guest guest
We have a 2 bite rule. Anything new my son (actually all our kids) must take 2 bites of. The reason for 2 is that the first bite there is usually so much protest that he doesn't really taste it. The second bite is when he has the chance to realize whether or not he really likes it. I have found for some reason my son is more receptive if my 8 year old daughter feeds him the first couple bites. As for the complaining from the typically developing kids, we don't tolerate it. They both went through stages of pickiness when they were younger (they are now 8 & 10) but because of the 2 bite rule and no complaining allowed, there is nothing they dislike and they enjoy mealtimes. It is so enjoyable to go take them out or go to friend's house because if it. It's when they think they will get mileage out of the complaining that it continues. As for drinks, my son had never drank milk. Until a few weeks ago, he only drank diluted juice. I have tried water in him sippy cup but he wouldn't drink it. I then tried it in an open cup and guess what? He likes it. He also drank some rice milk in an open cup. You have to experiment to see what works. Don't ever think you are being mean by making your son eat what is good for him. When I see other parents that feel they can " reason " with their child to get them to do what they want, I also observe an unhappy child. We must be the parents. He may not like it now, but he will be better off for it in the long run. I have found that many of my 3 kids' favorite foods are the ones they protested trying. They would not be enjoying those favorites today if I had not insisted they tried them before. My being " mean " was to their benefit and my 2 oldest have actually thanked me for not letting them be picky. > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Hi I am pretty sure that most of the McCormicks Spices are ok. I asked that same ? and ppl pretty much said what I had was probably ok. I read the lables to be sure. I suspected yeast with my child bc she has a nonstop yeast infection type of thing and tummy aches. The group helped me figure that out. Haven't had her tested. Don't give up, look for hidden g or c now. Try to get gfcf hair shampoo, toothpaste, detergent, etc...Go to gfcfdiet.com Janelle :-)
