Guest guest
Tammy, There are different seminars for different sections of MAGIC. For example, the GHD seminar is designed for the Growth Hormone Deficient Division, while the Basics of RSS/SGA is designed for the RSS/SGA division. This doesn't mean you can't attend a seminar designed for another group but that is why they are scheduled concurrently. Last year MAGIC videoed several seminars that were (and still are) available for purchase for members of MAGIC (which you now are). You probably want to go to RSS/SGA basics ( is still pretty young to deal with the adrenarche and the basics gives a good overview), then Treating RSS/SGA, continue after lunch with being born SGA, and GHT treatment. That would be my suggestion. Learn the basics first and then next year things like adrenarche or GHT may be a little more imminent. Jenn Salem will let us know when and if there will tapes of this year's presentations and remember you can still order last years for RSS basics and the adrenarche sections as well as 2 other presentations. You will gain sooooo much information. Also, you will have an ENTIRE year to fundraise for your funds for next year's convention. After your visit this year you'll see why people go back time and again! I was looking at the convention schedule this morning and noticed that there are alot of seminars that are scheduled at the same time. There are a few that I want to go to, but do the scheduling times I can't make them all. For example, I want to go to the GHD, the Precocious Puberty, Basics of RSS/SGA, and Adrenarche & Puberty segment, They are all held 9am. Then also at 2:30-4pm they have the 1-2-3 magic and the Growth Hormone Treatment segment. Is there a DVD on the segments that you can not attend? Or do I send my husband to one and I go to another each with a tape recorder? Or am I maybe reading the times wrong. This maybe the only year we get to go due to the expense of it and I want to get everything I can out of it. Thanks, Tammy Mom to 19mos, 14lbs 13oz, RSS/SGA, GERD, fundoplication, g- tube and ADHD and about to go on GHT. _____
Guest guest
Dayna, Thanks. I will definitely follow your advice and do the RSS basics first. Hope to see you there. Guest guest
Tammy - It is a tough situation. Each division within MAGIC is for children of a specific growth disorder. Probably 95% of the children do not usually cross over. A handful of RSS/SGA children may be GHD, so that is the one that there could be crossover. CPP is truly central precocious puberty -- this means children whose puberty begins at, gosh, there are little girls who have gotten their periods at age 2. Because this is your first convention, it is most important that you try and stick to the presentations that are geared at RSS/SGA. If your husband wants to try and attend another presentation, let's say for GHD, and your child has been diagnosed as growth hormone deficient through a stim test, then it would be encouraged. Now, within our RSS/SGA division, in the morning we did divide our sessions. This was primarily because many of us have heard the Dr. H presentation 3 or 4 times. Any brand new family should absolutely go to the " Basics " and " Dr. H Protocol " above and beyond the Adrenarche discussion. IF a first-time family has two adults, then split up and have one go to the Adrenarche one. But far more important information will be learned for the newcome in the latter presentations. The afternoon sessions with Chernausek and Cznernichow I planned so that ALL of us would listen to both of these speakers. I hope this helps explain it a bit better.
