I am so mad. I can't even tell you guys. I just can't even function right now. This is getting to be too much for me. I can't continue this battle anymore, it's constant, it never stops, it never ends, it's always something that I am having to fight the system and it's just me doing it (his father, interestingly enough, is of the same believe of this teacher: Adam just needs to SMARTEN UP and his RSS will go away). > > OK I gotta go calm down. Guest guest
Thanks Dawna But at this point if I have to actually SPEAK to anyone I know I am going to cry and I am afraid at that point I won't be able to stop. I appreciate the offer, I just came home for lunch. EEK look at the time, shoot I gotta run and go back to the hell hole. I have printed up the stuff on Magic to highlight all about hypo-g etc. This is just so much a waste of my time. What kills me more than anything?? What this is doing to Adam! Guest guest
No problem Deb ... I know what you mean about the crying ... it's my biggest defence ... I was close to it reading your post. Is there another grade 8 you can put him in at the school. It's too bad people think they know so much when they know very little about something ... they should just try to get more educated about the situation instead of thinking they can cure it. Guest guest
Hi, If you want to provide the name and address I would be more than happy to help you by writing a letter...the Head of the ER that screwed up Emerence's care a few weeks ago said he had never quite seen the likes of the 2.5 page letter I wrote, especially not from someone not in the medical field....I'm sure there would be other here who would want to help " educate " the educator :) :) > Jodi wanted to scream a few days ago, I am screaming!! Guest guest
Deb, You scream girl!!!! We all need to scream sometimes and this idiot teacher needs a lesson!!! Can you send him the RSS brochure!! (Ya know the blue one!) I have found a bit of trouble with Storm's teachers this year also, but after I requested a " check-up " on his IEP, we have had no other problems!! I skipped the principal and went straight to the special ed dept, because that is who is in charge of his IEP and ARD meetings! I hope things calm down and this teacher gets a clue!!! I'm screaming with you!!!! Blessings, Carmen
Guest guest
Debby, My heart goes out to you and especially Adam. That is terrible he has to be involved in something like this because a stupid teacher is so ignorant and condescending. What is wrong with this world? Debby, for what it is worth, you are NOT coddling your son. You are doing everything appropriate to keep him HEALTHY! THAT is the important thing. Screw what that damn teacher thinks. He is just an arrogant SOB! Oops. All these terrible things people are going through is getting to me! ) Like I said in my post to Jodi Z., it is a shame we have to fight the way we do for the good of our children. Sucks! Big time. I really hope you can make this teacher eat his words. What a jerk and have Adam feeling like he does is absolutely wrong. You tell that precious little boy that that teacher was way out of line and that he is a great kid. I am sure he is feeling a little self- conscious about now after hearing that negativity! Guest guest
Hey, Deb, let's scream together. I do understand your frustrations and you can't even ask your ex to get involved because he'll only make things worse. UGH! It's just awful when the teacher/doctor/others think that you are just coddling your son. I'm going through it with Max and the GI team. That's another story. You and I know that it's not the case, but try to get them to believe it. They just put us in that overprotective mom role and think they are right because " they are the professionals. " Is there you can get someone else to write a letter that supports what you are saying? What about Katy or Dayna since they are covering the RSS Division? And use the MAGIC brochures, too. Scream all you want, Deb. I'm screaming with you! Jodi Z
Guest guest
Thanks Jodi R The other problem right now, and it's a long story that I don't have time to go into, but Adam was diagnosed as severely depressed in August and now is on anti-depressants. the teacher is aware of this. But this is all affecting him WAY more than normal because of certain things someone has been telling him repeatedly to give him the message that he is NOT OK the way he is. That he is no good. I just want to cry. Now this teacher is basically saying the same thing. I have supported this man, yes, Adam is a bugger often and if he can find a small opening to get out of work.....he's going to use it to his advantage. He is brilliant at figuring out how to weasel his way out of things. I support the teacher in some respects and took several strips of skin off Adam today at that meeting. I basically said to him that finding out what his homework is and TRYING to do it, is not a difficulty that can be blamed on RSS. HE HAS TO DO IT. I should think the man would see that I am being reasonable. I am not sitting there blaming everything my kid does on his syndrome. But I am fighting for the things that are appropriate and necessary to his well being. (oh the other one?? How about having to copy the DIRECTIONS out of the math text every night before doing the math???? What educational value is that???? Now that is where I do call on the RSS and say it is not feasible for him to copy the DIRECTIONS out as he has low muscle tone). but geez. Anyway, thanks for the kind words. I need someone to fight the battle for me. Oh Sheldon do you think you can come up here and help?? I would say " you could be Adam's grandfather " but considering I am 40 and you are 45.....well we would have to find a different role for you!!! Guest guest
Thanks . I shall keep you in mind. Guest guest
Carmen I hear you. One thing I didn't mention though, is this man is firmly committed to " fixing " Adam. He is doing this out of genuine care. He wants to be the one to make the difference it's just that his strategies are WRONG WRONG WRONG. I had to chuckle that you skipped the principal and went to the special ed. dept! I AM the special ed. dept!! LOL So no help there. I'll let you guys know after I compose my letter tomorrow but I have already called in sick for Tuesday so I can get some things straightened out for Adam (and for me!!). It's been building up too much around here. Thanks Carmen for the support. It's always great to hear from you. Oh I think we need another trip to Chicago soon. Adam asked me on our way back to school after lunch " mom are there any other RSS kids in the world?? " I said " Adam you met tons and tons in Chicago!! " He says " oh yeh " . UGH Debby Re: I AM SCREAMING > Deb, > You scream girl!!!! We all need to scream sometimes and this idiot > teacher needs a lesson!!! Can you send him the RSS brochure!! (Ya know > the blue one!) Guest guest
Deb - I wish I had something as intelligent to say as you always do! I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Oh sweetie - it is so frustrating - constantly fighting and defending and trying so hard to make things work for Adam - I totally underestand. I wish I had an answer for you. If it helps - since you sent me that e-mail regarding IEP - I've been trying to " read-up " on it so I can better understand what your parameters are within the program. It would seem to me, you have all your bases covered and you are doing exactly what you need to do. Try not (don't hit me) to let him get to you. You will win - because you are intelligent and understand the system. Just be a little more patient. Write your letter, cc the appropriate people, and continue on. Adam will be okay - I promise. He has you and he is incredibly fortunate to have you. I'm fortunate to have you <grin> - we ALL are fortunate to have you. You are doing a terrific job. Remember that! Hugs to you. Call me at home if you need to. Okay? - H ps - sorry it took me so long to respond. > Jodi wanted to scream a few days ago, I am screaming!! I can't take any of this anymore, I am at the end of my rope. > > We won't even bother going into the man's philosophy of " just stop coddling Adam " (read follow his IEP) " and just MAKE HIM BE LIKE THE OTHERS and he will be " NO accommodations no NOTHING. > Adam is on the moon he is so frustrated. > > Today's problem??He is not allowing Adam to eat. I wrote a letter yesterday saying he HAS to eat. So what does he do?? Without discussing it with me, he went to the principal, she says have him eat in another class. AND THEN HE COMES AND COMPLAINS THAT ADAM WAS GONE FOR AN HOUR. > Well dah!!! Why the * & * & * can't he eat in the classroom like he has since grade 1 (and now he's in grade 8)??? Yeh, Adam used this to get out of class. Sure, he's not STUPID. He is going to take advantage of this and get out of class. He's a kid, kids DO THAT. But you can't have it all your way Mr. Teacher. > > OH I am livid. Now he says to me " make a schedule that says when he can eat and he can only eat for 1-2 minutes " > > OH FOR PETE " S SAKE!! Try explaining " lack of hunger signs " ; it's a physiological problem that he was BORN with, try explaining that he eats SLOW, though most RSS kids have delayed gastric emptying and this and that and UGH He doesn't care because I am AN OVERPROTECTIVE mother who doesn't know what is best. I am coddling the boy and he is going to get him INTO SHAPE. > > By law the IEP has to be followed, but he is choosing not to. Now he has involved the PRINCIPAL which opens the door for me. They will be getting a letter from me first thing next week and it will say what Adam's needs are. My problem is this teacher and I are in the same union so I can not go and " complain " to the principal without involving the union....but now I can certainly outline a " regime " for Adam and CC it to the principal since HE involved her. Thanks for listening to my rant. I really can't deal with this anymore, I just can't. > > Deb > > >

Guest guest
Thanks for the warm thoughts. I keep meaning to send you a copy of what our IEPs look like. Aw, it's on the " to do " list (that may finally get done in about 6 months!!!) It's taken me years to get Adam's IEP exact to meet his needs. It does say " allow small frequent snacks " but I never thought I needed to add " in his own classroom " . I was talking on the phone last night to another teacher on staff and I was walking my fine line of not criticizing the teacher (I could get in a lot of trouble if he happened to find this web site!! LOL) but I was careful and she said " so what's the problem exactly with him going to the back of the room and eating quietly? " But I am saying " why should he have to go and sit on the floor in and amongst the coats to eat? Why can't he just eat at his desk? He has done this FOR YEARS. Why is it a problem with just this teacher? You know I need to take a survey to find out how many teachers munch on food while the kids are in class (I knew one lady that had a bowl of oatmeal while she taught) and you can't tell me that teachers don't have coffee in their class throughout the day. OK OK don't get me going again. I am leaving this subject now. I'll check in some time today. I don't get to come home for lunch today and I am going to be leaving Adam here ALONE today. I only work 2 km away from here (about a 2 minute drive) so *if* there is a problem I can be here fast. But I have to get use to leaving him alone for when he begins high school. And I want him to see that I " have faith " in him and trust his maturity (yeh right!! LOL). But my mom is coming over around noon to take him shopping for his birthday so he'll have some " supervision " in the middle of the day and she'll get him some lunch (so I don't have to worry he's going to decide to make himself a pasta meal with garlic bread and burn my house down!!) Oh fun fun fun times at the Baillargeon house!!! Deb Re: I AM SCREAMING > Deb - I wish I had something as intelligent to say as you always > do! I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Guest guest
Adam is having his best friend from our old school over for a sleep over tonight and possibly on Sunday (his actual birthday DAY) we will go to Tuckers Market place (it's an all you can eat buffet that the kids love;the birthday person gets their meal for free). Personally I never eat enough to make it worth the money I spend. Whereas my daughter and even Adam eat enough for a month!!! Adam and his snacks? He wants to be able to take out his snack and eat it when he should be working so he has an excuse for not working!!! Or he wants to go out to the other class (like he did yesterday) and sit there and play chess and munch for an hour!!! My son will find the best way to milk any situation. But what has been the most successful is if he eats at his desk and works while he eats (keeps him on task and keeps him from getting " bored " ; his major complaint about school). I wanted to send you guys my letter that I typed today. I forwarded to my home email, but when I called it up just now I realize that my first draft is what got here (have no idea HOW) and I had completely changed that draft before handing it in. You'd laugh at me, I typed it, highlighted the Magic statements that I had printed from the site and put it in the principal's mail box and Adam's teacher's box and then RAN out the door!!!! LOL If they don't like it, I want to be hit with their wrath on Wed. not today!!!! Chicken me!!!! Deb Re: I AM SCREAMING > Deb - it's birthday? HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADAM!!!!!
